Esther Smale hosted the Christmas meet•
ing of the Staffa Women's Institute at her
home on Monday. December 30, when secret
pals for 1985 were revealed and gifts
exchanged, along with an exchange of
Christmas cookies and recipes.
Convenors of Education and Cultural
Activities. Lillian Douglas and Doris Miller
were in charge of the meeting. Mrs, Hobert
McCaughey accompanied Carols on the
piano. Mrs. Douglas presided calling on Mts.
Smale to display some of her daughter, Helen
Meneye's paintings, which had been done in
%%later colors, oils and pencil,
Sixteen member:: and four visitors answer-
ed the toll call. by naming a Christmas
custom which they keep. Mrs. Douglas
reminisced tor a few minutes on the bus trip

Twenty-four members and their guests
attended the Christmas meeting of the
Walton Women's Institute. It began with a
potluck meal.
President Leona McDonald welcomed
everyone. opening with a poem for Christ-
mas, the Institute Ode was repeated in unison
then the Institute Grace prior to the supper.
Berva Watson was in charge of the
program assisted by other branch directors.
Marjory Humphries and Maxine Marks. It
was in the form of an old fashioned concert.

sing song accompanied at the piano by
Marjory Humphries who also played for a
travelling prize that was won by Mary
MacDonald.

draw was made for the corsage and was won
by Cathy Thompson. Phyllis was thanked and
presented with a gift of money on behalf of
the institute.
The draw was made for the quilt that had
been mode by the institute and therwinner
was P. Byrne of Clinton. Second prize for a
crocheted pillow was Karen Meehan. Sarnia.
A short business period brought the
discussion to try one Bird party a month, on a
special occasion, the date to be set at the
January meeting. There will be a noon
luncheon on the day of our institute meeting.

business portion when it was agreed to
preeeed the January meeting with a potluck
dinner a work meeting to make several crib
quilts for the Western Ontario children's
hospital was discussed. Suggestions for
slaking a large quilt and for publishing a
cookbook were also discussed
