Congregation visits. Callander residents

The Callander Nursing Home residents
had a blessed Christmas season. The
residents have been visited by Rev. Lyons
and his congregation from the Anglican
Church; Doug and Evelyn Purdy from the
Salvation Army; Brussels Zion and Ethel
Mennonite Churches and Father Stan from
W Ingham.
Eighty children from East Wawanosh
School sang carols and a junior and senior
choir was also present from the Brussels
Public Schaol.
A staff and residents party was held and
each staff member gave a gift to one of the
residents. Once again Mrs', Jeannette Boyn-
ton led the discussion group.
Everyone at the home was saddened by the
death of Murra Grant. Sympathy goes to her
husband Gordon who is,'also a resident at the
home.
Twenty-two residents went on a bus tour
around Brussels to see the Christmas lights,
The tour was followed by the Leo Club
singing Christmas carols and everyone
enjoying pumpkin tarts made by the
residents.
Christmas Eve. Bob and Donna Lowes and
family and Bev Cardiff held a candlelight
service.

Carl. Debbie, Ronnie, Matthew and Lance

Crystal McLellan of Brussels and David and
Dianne McLellan of RR4, Walton and Gordon
McIRIlan of Hamilton called at the same
home, he was having Christmas with his
sister and brother-in-law Sid •and Melody
White.
Visitors from Thursday 011 Sunday with
Alvin and Pam were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clark
and Alien 'of Pickering. They alljoined the
Clark families in Wingham for a Christmas
get-together on Friday.
Mr. and Mrs, Fred Stute and family joined
family members in Strathroy tor their

CONCERT HELD
Melville Church school held their annual
Christmas concert on Sunday December 22.
Wilfred Shortreed, the superintendent
welcomed everyone. A program called A
Celebration of Christmas involving all the
students followed. Leanne Armstrong was
narrator. The four and five -year-olds began
with a number entitled Christmas Symbols.
They were Matthew Shortreed, Sarah Exel,
Crystal Semple, Kara Pepper and Heather
Douma.

The Junior Sunday School choir opened the
pprogram with two songs. Each class from
hegrniters to seniors presented eitherskits or
songs describing the Christmas stories.
Jayne Vincent gave a recitation. tan Morton
sang a solo and Ross Procter read a poem
praising the community spirit of Lewis Cook.
Clifford Coultes and Company held an
auction sale of much needed items for around
the house.
The Senior Sunday school choir closed the
program with three Christmas carols.
George Cull led in a short sing -song and
Santa arrived and passed out bags of candy
andgifts to all members of the Sunday
School.

The Celebration of Thanksgiving and
,Praise was handled by Grades 3 to 6. They
represented a family sitting around the
kitchen table and were: Father, Bret
Clarkson; Mother, Wendy Clark; daughter,
Kendra Shortreed and son, David Arm-
strong.
Laura Douma and Rob Shortreed were also
part of the skit.
Jim Shortreed took up the conceder' and -
Joanne and Karla King performed a
piano -clarinet duet.
Rev. Jamieson said the prayer and thanked
the pupils and teachers for their fine
program.
UNITED CHURCH •
Rev. Carpentier spoke on "Cali We Claim
Fellowship with God?" at the January 5
service of the Brussels United Church.
Prayers were said for the sick and shut-ins
and the choir had an anthem presentation.
The United Church congregation and their
minister will have the service of worship at
the Callender Nursing 'Home, The deadline
for the 1985 reports is January 15. The
Official Board of pastoral charge will meet on
Wednesday, January 15 at 8 p.m. in the
Brussels United Church. Please try to attend,
