THE HURON EXPOSITOR,.JANUARY 1, 1986 — All Kippers women hold Christmas party Kippen Correspondent M ARGARE 1' IIOGGARTII 262-6902 Kippen East Women's Institute held their Christmas Party in Hensall United Church on December 18 with dinner being served. Harold Parsons had the lucky saucer and other prizes were won by Evelyn Workman and Vern Alderdice. Mildred Chalmers presented a contest to guess the number of candies in, a jar. it was won by Thea W isch and Winston Workman. This part of the program was conducted by Marlene Bell. A sing -song of familiar songs was sung, and Mary Rmadfool played a medley of Christg mas songs, among them Star of the East. Phyllis Parsons conducted a ,contest and winners were Grace Eyre and Grace Drum- mond. Grace Drummond gave a reading and conducted the business. Margaret Hoggarth was in charge of the program at which Frances Kinsman played a medley of Christmas carols. Rena Caldwell read a poem and Margaret Hoggarth introduced the guest speaker Pat Rowe of Hensall who showed some of her collection of pictures'of New Zealand and gave commen- tary on the country and its people. Pat was thanked by Thea W isch. Grace Eyre gave courtyysv remarks. The meeting closed with "We Wieh Yon n Merry Christmas." KIPPENUNITED CHURCH NEWS St.' Andrew's, Kippen, was fittingly decorated for the Christmas season on Surfday, December 22. Mary Moffatt pre- sided at the organ and accompanied the choir as they presented the ministry of music by singing "The Bethlehem Boy." The fourth Advent candle of Revelation was lit, leaving the fifth and final candle for the Christmas Eve Service to be held in the Brucefield Church. Rev. Lorne Keays preached a sermon entitled "Missing Christmas." PERSONAIS Rosemary McGregor is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, W e wish her a speedy recovery. With 1985 ,lust about ready to become history, acknowledgement should be made to the men who keep the Branch operating from day to day. Thanks Frank, Leo, Bob and Ken for the hours put in working on the weekends and for the extra little things they are always asked to perform. Thanks also to Ken and Thelma who are always busy cleaning up the messes and making ready for another. These little jobs have to be done if the Legion is to eater to the public. The Ladies Auxiliary as always have to be commended for the hours they give to the Legion. Without them the Legion would be like a fish out of water. Their efforts have helped to make the Legion as it is known today through the country. • There are two or three members who see to it we do not go dry at the various parties held upstairs. To Bill and his helpers on behalf of the Branch, the President and the members. say "Thank you." To the rest of the member: LEGION ..' NEWS and those on committees and serving in some capacity on the executive, it is hoped they will see fit to be b: ck serving the Branch another year. Last Sunday the Children's Christmas Party was held with Santa distributing some 150 bags of candy to the kids. A short program was held with the following children performing. After the concert a movie entitled "The little Rascals" was shown by Terry Johnston which was enjoyed by all. Mary Doig led' the children in singing carols and Christmas songs until Santa arrived. There are still a few tickets available for the New Years Eve Party at the time of writing. If anyone wishes tickets please phone 527-0740 to reserve them. The format is the same as last year with a social hour before the buffet dinner which will be served before the dance. The price is $25 a couple and includes punch, a buffet dinner, dancing to a live band, plus hats and horns. On hehalf of President Jack Muir and Thelma Coombs, President of the Ladies Auxiliary everyone is wished a Happy New Year for 1986. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
