BETTY McCALL S67-0677 The Sunday School room of Duff's United Church was decorated in the Christmas Spirit for the Chris-lmas meeting,of Walton L _Spirit W"ednesl"ay t ecember 9. The losing side of the copper contest were in charge of arrangements. A smorgasbord was enjoyed prior to the "meeting. Margery Huether'played,Christmas music while peo- ple were arriving. . • Devotional period with the Call to Worship was opened by Berva Watson, assisted by Phyllis Mitchell and Janie • McEwing. Christmas Carols were sung accompanied by pianist, Elva Wilbee. Gloria Wilbee sang two beautiful solos, I'll be 'home for. Christmas and• I'm dreaming of a white Christmas. Marie McGavin conducted the .business' period, opening with a reading, "Christmas time • is here." Audrey • iackwell read minutes and Doreen .Backwell the treasurer's report.. Offering was received and dedicated. Marie mentioned • U.C.W. pins are still available, also three calendars. In the announcements of coming events is the installaton oof Uf,1W: o►f cers on Sun- day, January 3.' The Annual congregational meeting follows a potluck dinner after the morning church service at 11:30 aro, on January 17. There was a discussion on doing quilts, so. they may not take on as many .quilts this year. The evening closed with an exchange of gifts in the charge of Betty McCall and Mary Humphries: • Walton 11 Unit ' The December meeting of ,Walton 1I unit .was held at the home of Marilyn McDonald with the losing side of the Copper Contest in charge ,of devotions. They included the Christmas Story, Christmas Carols, poems, prayers and short stories. • In the business, minutes were read, reports given, one thank you card read and one gift given. Hostesses for the coming year was discussed and some volunteers for various months. Christmas gifts were given out and all en- joyed a special'lunch prepared by the losing side. Christmas Concert Parents, grandparents and friends attend- ed the annual Sunday School Concert Sun day afternoon in the basement of Duff's United Church: Gloria Carter played Christmas Carols preceding the program. Rev.. Bonnie Lamble was Master of Ceremony for the program, which included the nursery children, Robbie McClure, Trisha McClure, Jennifer McClure, Sarah McDonald, Scott McDonald, Kevin •Wilbee and Mark Wilbee on stage With their blankets.as_Gloria..Wilbee..sang. `_`Security" with guitar accompaniment. Teachers are Michelle and Heather Gauley. Chris Davies gave a guitar instrumental "Frosty, the S nowman". The Junior Choir sang "Have a Merry, Merry Christmas"director Rev. Bonnie Lamble, pianist Ma,rion Godkiti. Choir con- sisted of Cindy McCallum, .Colleen Mc- Callum, Lee Ann McDonald, Lisa Gingerich, Andrea Gingerich,' Sharon Godkin, Shannon Craig, Sarah Lamble, • 'Barb Lamble. Piano solo by Sarah Lamble Foresters to host December euchre Cranbrook Correspondent MRS. MAC ENGEL 887-6645 Knox Presbyterian Church is having its Christmas concert on Tuesday, December. 22. Court Woodbine M100 Canadian -Foresters held their regular meeting on Tuesday, December 8 in the Community Centre. Six- teen members attended and all officers ex- cept one were present. Bro. Jack 'gave a report on the W.O.P.A. meeting at Wallaceburg. A Christmas lunch was served by the committee, Bro. Mae Mclntosh, Sister Mary Ellen Jacklin and Sister Mary Hanna, Court closed in Harmony at Bro. Donald Clark gave a report on the renovations proposed for the Cranbrook Community Centre, The Foresters are holding a euchre on Friday, December 18. On Wednesday; December 9 the Women's Missionary Society of Knox Church held their usual potluck Christmas dinner at the home of Mrs. Stuart Stevenson. Eleven members and four visitors enjoyed the meal. The annual meeting followed. The president Mrs. Jack Knight welcomed everyone and the regular business was con- ducted. The roll call was a Christmas verse or reading. The following are the officers for 1988. President - Mrs. Jack Knight, vice- pres. - Mrs. Stuart Stevenson, Treasurer - Mrs, Jim Hart, Sec. - Mrs. Wilfred Strickler; assistant - Mrs. Mac Engel, Glad Tidings - Mrs. Harvey Smith, Friendship and Service - Mrs. Engel, Press See. - Mrs. Engel, Auditor - Mrs. Jack Knight. All repeated the Lord's Prayer in closing. The Cranbrook Women's Institute held its December meeting at the home of Mrs. John Venass. The Country Cooks served a delicious dinner which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. There were three draws won by Mrs. Frank Workman, Mrs. Bob Locking, and Mrs. Lloyd Smith. Nancy conducted an amusingg contest that everyone enjoyed. Christmas carols Were sung with Mrs. Workman at the piano followed by a gift ex- change. We were glad to have two members who have moved from the community, Marilyn_ Clark and Grace van Donkersgoed back to the Christmas dinner. A smaller crowd than Usual were present on Friday, December 11 at the Hall Board euchre. Taking part were Susan Carter, Ran- dy McClure and Liz Lamble along with helpers from the audience who were the two of each animalsthat went onto Noah's Ark. Everyone joined in with several carols. Jingle Bells brought the Jolly old fellow San- ta Claus which pleased every child, giving out a bag of candies. • Rev.
