member the team to move in and share
the cast.
Another thing he has to spend his money
on is the fine system imposed by the Pitt-
aburgh organization. Any slip ups, Bite being
late for practice, result in fines. And if
players haven't had a foie by January there
is an automatic $100 fine. So far Dave has
only had to pay $25 for missing a practice
because he got a flat tire, but he'll get it
back as all these fines go toward a team par-
ty at the end of the season.
Once, on the road to Vancouver, the`
veteran players decided it was rookie night
and the rookies would foot the bill to take the
vets out to supper. But they didn't stop off at
the golden arches, the teen' Went first class
at the revolving restaurant in Vancouver.
They even bought cigars. There are five
rookies on the team and they each ended up
spending $180.
But the relationship amongst the teats(
members is reportedly good.
"The older guys have been great toward
the kids,", is hots Mrs, McLiwein put it,
Sonhe rookies tett hair in team initiation, but
Dave has been lucky so far and is hoping the
team will forget about him.
Dave has been getting his share of media
attention, and has done a radio interview in
Pittsburgh. The interviewers called him a
"ninth round draftpick that blossomed into
a' nice One." Iti the interview Dave- said he's
going through the same Ivan nig process
no* as he did whi0ali be played j'tuuor hockey
for the firstseason. He said he IS not worried
WAIT is"e time, and learns something every
game and every practice.
Mr, and Mrs, McLIWain have made the
61/2 hoar drive to see their son' five trines
and they, and many other people from this
comMunity, will cont nue to keep up with
how have is doing.
