Maplewood residents enjoy bazaar 'Maplewood Manor residents enjoyed all j the usual activities of the week, but it was the weekend activities that were. of „par- ticular Interest to everyone.' On Monday the bridge club was held in the dining room. The • players. were ,Agnes • Hunter, Lloyd Rowat, Austin Matheson, Anne Crerar and Winona McDougall. Tuesday afternoon, euchre was•the game ; that attracted.the attention of Pete and Wil- ly. Tremeer, Gertie Taylor, .Agnes Hunter, Winona McDougall, Ed and Jean Johns, Ar- nold Lamont, Jessie Finlayson, Lloyd • Rowat and Ise Stanley. The door prize of a ''.:dainty Christnners"wreatli was won by ise Stanley. . . Wednesday afternoon footcare was held at Mapiewotfd. Tins•popular service is provid- ed by the nurses from the Huron County, Health Unit. It is certainly appreciated by the residents and the community. • • Thursday was a busy day. It began. with a•. sing along in the morning with Carol Carter playing ,the piano. Drusilia Leitch held exercise class with her. faithful group. Agnes Hunter, Edgar Allan, Winona 'McDougall, Mae Morrell, Esther Thompson and Hellen'. Dallas, limbered up and enjoyed it very much. • At 4 p.m. Father Caruana came to Maplewood for the worship service. Those. Wilma Brill drew the winn- ing ticket and the lucky person was Lois Govier of Seaforth. Thursday was euchre with Volunteers and prizes were donated- by Mary McIver and lunch by Ann Downey. Ladies high score was held by Mamie Ross and lone hands by Edith Salo. For the men Glenn Rose was high and lone hands winner was Frank Scnale. Consolation winners were Margaret Smale and Pat Ryan. Worship services were held on Wednesday with Reverend Vanslyke of Northside United Church in charge. Kathleen Cuthill accompanied at the pain for the hymns. Junior volunteers assisted last Tuesday with wheelchair bowling and in the after- noon resident viewed the film on Maderia- the island of flowers. Monday of this week residents welcomed the Christmas season by patricipating in the Advent candlelighting service. The first candle' was llt by Harold Maloney. Reader was Patrick Ryan and prayer was given by Frank-Smale. Following the service Mary Finlayson told residents how Christmas is observed in Bethlehem. Each Monday of December a different country custom will be discussed. PERSONALS ' Visiting with Norma Jeffrey were Mrs. John McEwing from Blyth and Mary Little of Seaforth. Visiting with Mary Ryan were her cousin Frank Ryan and Mr. and Mrs. Zack Ryan and Mr.. and Mrs. Russell Smith. Rose and Pat Alman visited the former's parents Mr. and Mrs. Dave Netzke. Bill Scott was visited by his wife Isabel. Mr. and Mrs. A. Slattery of Hanover visited with Madeline Slattery. Madge Remes was visited by her son Sydney Scroggs. Wilson Blanchard was Visited by his sister-in-law and nieces of Parkhill. Zurich man wins Cup draw The Seaforth Legion extends its thanks to Betty Felker, Chairlady of the Ways and Means Committee, and her committee, for the job done on the recent Grey Cup draw, sponsored by the local Legion. All the tickets were sold and accounted for. The $25 winners were: lst quarter, Shanna Arm- strong, 2nd quarter, Pearson Chesney, 3rd quarter, Ross Laur and overall winner of $500 Tony Bedard of Zurich who had 3&38 for Edmonton. The seller of the winning ticket was' Iva Reid of Hensall. The Branch would also like to thank all those who took time to sell these tickets. The hardworking Legion Auxiliary Ladies are nearing the end of another successful year. This mmrtth is probably one of their busiest of the year with Christmas parties being catered for with banquets on Friday and Saturday and sometimes one or two through the week. To these dedicated girls and their helpers the Legion again says thank you - for another year of hard work and dedication to the Legion and the prin- ciples it stands for. • Don't forget the turkey bingo the enter- tainment committee is sponsoring again this year. There is one Monday at 7:30 p.m. and the final Bingo is Monday, December 14. According to chairman John Lansink, the New Years tickets will be available shortly. The price and the format will be the same as LEGION NEWS by Gordon Scott last year. The stag euchres are proving as popular this year, with another •one slated for Wednesday, December 9, and the final one for 1987, on Deceinber 23. Also, on Wednes- day, December 18, another mixed euchre will be held, beginning at 8 p.m. in the ban- quet hall. The prizes for the euchres will he turkeys. The bar roster for Wednesday, December 2 to Thursday, December 10 will be: Rod Doig (December 2), D. McCauley (December 3), K. Swan (December 7), B. Wilbee (December8), R. Govier (December 9)and Glen Chesney (December 10). Word has just been received of the death of Mrs. Clare Wall. Her husband, Comrade Clare, had been the Provincial Service Of- ficer for a number of years until his recent retirement this year. To Clare and his fami- ly the Legion offers its sincerest sympathies inthe loss of a wife and mother. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
