The Huron Expositor, 1987-11-25, Page 256A — THE HURON EXPOSITOR, DECEMBER 2, 1987 Canada Post hard at work helping Santa and a promise that all replies are approved by Santa himself before they're sent back to the children. For their part, children'are asked to write to Santa as follows: Santa Claus, North Pole, Canada HOH 0110 and to make sure they include their name and return address, along with the postal 'code. As more and more children learn about this unique seasonal"service, many volunteer elves find themselves working in- to the night, trying to decipher a youngster's scrawl of puzzling over an incomplete return address, The hours may be long and the• work may be occasionally frustrating, but most of the volunteers say they wouldn't trade—the job for anything. . For more information, call the local post office and ask for the local Santa Letter Pro- gram co-ordinator or elf, or contact Richard Bowness, Divisional co-ordirfator in London at (519) 679-5050 ext. 200. Once again, postal employees in hundreds of post offices large and small across southwesternOntario are devoting much of their spare time in an annual labor of love — helping a certainold fellow from the North Pole with his Christmas correspondence. Since 1982, Canada Post has helped Santa Claus answer nearly three million letters from, children across Canada and around the world. Replies have been sent out on behalf of Santa in English and French, but also in at least a dozen other languages in- cluding Spanish, • Greek, Polish, Viet- namese, Chinese and German. To ensure that sight isn't a requisite to receiving this slice of Christmas magic, replies have also beet► prepared hi -braille. The sheer volume of letters addressed to Santa (more than 65,000 in southwestern On- tario alone last year) translates into a for midable amount of work for the volunteer army. To help them, Canada Post provides enveii, npa awl lotion .fr.,. rho onhmtporc — County may establish development areas Huron•• County's planning and develop- ductedby a University of Waterloo planning ment department is considering the concept class. • of establishing • community economic - Determining the feasibility ofco-operative development areas within the county. action •b y approaching several —Arits regular November session;Huron municipalities. in- .the-Clinton=Seaforth_are County Council learned of the department's for an indication of their interest in such a plan to review the possibility of forming the community economic development areas in which several municipalities would work together to .promote community develop- ment in their area.
