Egmondville UCW guest speaks on Friendship House
The fall meetings of the EgmgndvhJ1e
United Church Women were held recently
at the church.
Guest speaker for the October meetfuig
was June Taylor from the Friendship House
in Goderich. She was introduced by Lois
Moore, who described the house and told of
Mrs. Taylor's involvement there. Mrs.
Taylor told how it is filled to capacity and
serves battered women and their children In
Huron County. It helps women to receive
counselling and regain their self respect.
Many qualified people are thereto help, and
Mrs. Taylor recounted many incidents and
told of the different kinds of abuse.
The November meeting was in the charge
of Janet Papple, who introduced Rev.
Cheryl Ann . Stadlebauer-Sampa. .Rev.
Stadlebauer-Sampa spoke on Africa and
demonstrated a typical African meal serv-
ed in Zambia. A thick dish made of cream of
wheat and milk cooked, chunky soup and
green vegetables was served and everyone.

said most people are fairly well fed and
perhaps the country folk a little better. Most

UUCW members watched a video on
"Rural Life in • Africa" and compared life
there to life in Canada. Most of the farina
are worked by the women„while the men go
to the city to find work. The women raise the
children and 'work very hard. Most of the
money earned is held back to help pay off
the country's national debt,
The December meeting will be a pot luck
dinner on December 7 at 6:30 p.m. Members
are asked to bring a small . gift to be
distributed to Manor and Hospital, also a
toiletry -item -to -be -sent -to -the -Friendship
House.

Ladies Aid meeting
The Ladies Aid of First Presbyterian
Church, Seaforth, met on Tuesday, Nov. 3
with 10 members present.
President Viola Lawson opened the
meeting with a reading "November
Dreams", and gave the prayer. Edith
McMillan took the Scripture lesson and
meditation. Roll cal was "what you
remember of World War two". Treasurer's `
report was given by Alice Reid and several
business matters were discussed. Mary Mc-.
Clore and Mary Riley will bring in the new • .
slate of officers at the December meeting. It
will begin with a pot luck dinner at noon for
all those taking part in the copper contest.
Edith McMillan gave a reading, con-
ducted a contest and played a piano solo.
Twomore readings were given by Viola
Lawson. • Lunch was served by Edith and
Viola, who were program convenors for this
meeting. ,
