Centenaires drop two
With the absence of ex head coach Doug
Anstett, the Seaforth Centenaires dropped
another. two games.this weekend. Assistant
coach Marty Bedard took over the coaching
duties.
Friday night the Centenaires were at the
Huron Park Arena where .they, took on the
tough Exeter Hawks team. The game was
an uphill battle all the way with Exeter com-
ing out of the first period with a•4-1 lead, The
lone Centenaire goal came from Mike ,
Schoonderwoerd assisted by Kevin Melady.
In the second period the Centenaires
played together as a team and managed to
get .a goal from Terry i'ugh_assisted by
Blair Beureman and Steve Schroeder, while
holding Exeter•,.to only one goal in the
period. But by the third period the normal
inconsistencies were back and Seaforth
allowed four goals to get past goalie Trevor
Fortune unanswered. The Centenaires were
)utshot in the game 47-16 and the final score
was 9-2.
Seahawks ge
Sunday the Centenaires hosted Lucan,
and onee again had trouble playing a full 60 -
minutes of hockey, But in the first period the
local club came out playing 'like they can,
and opened the scoring at 18:39 when Mike
Betties scored from Brad Beuttenmiller and
Kevin Melady, The Centenaires put, two
more goals in, one from Neil Corbett
assisted by Brad Beuttenmiller. and Mike
Betties, and Mike 'Betties again on a . pass
from Brad Carter. The score after the first
period was 3-2 in the Centenaires' favor.
But the second period saw the Centenaires
badly outshot 24-9, and outscored 3-0, and a
one goal lead was turned into a.. two goal
deficit. In the third period the Centenaires
put together a goal scored by Brad Ca -r
assisted by Mike Betties and Kevin Melady,
but allowed three more goals against.
Goalkeeper Ray Anstett faced 56 shots,
while the Centenaires only directed 29 at the
Lucan net. The final score was 8-4.
The Centenaires next home game will be
November 13 when they face Lambeth.
t it together
The Seaforth Seahawks Intermediate
hockey team chalked up its first win when it
hosted Drayton on Friday night.
Seahawk's manager Pete Martene said
the team really had it together on. Friday,
and the win didn't come because' Drayton
was a very bad team, the Seahawks just
played well. The game was a rough one and
there were a lot of penalties taken on both
sides. ,
The game was scoreless through all of the
first period and much of the second, but Jim
Campbell got the Seahawks on the
scoreboard assisted by Don Heard, and add-
ed another goal two minutes later, this time
assisted by Don Williamson. That got the
ball rolling and Brad Hymers put a third
puck away with help from Pete Bennet and

hibition games sure paid off. The boys found
out ; you shouldn't give up after only one
shot on net. Go for as many rebounds as
possible! Seaforth out, shot Mitchell 33 to
five which helped.
'Brandon Nash. scored the first goal six
minutes into the game, assisted by Josh
, Dietz and Shaun Anstett. Two minutes later
Mark Van Dooren assisted by Pat Gridzak
counted number two.
The second period saw two more goals for
Seaforth, the first by Sh'aun Anstett and the

with the players that will prove beneficial.

hattrick, assisted by Mike Kelly and Brian
Coombs. Shots on goal in the second period
were tied at only seven for both teams, but

chances.
The third period was the best for the
Seahawks in terms of scoring opportunities
as they got 12 shots and allowed only four
against them. But, both teams scored once
in the period to end the game at a final score
of 5-1. The last Seaforth goal was scored by
Graham Nesbitt unassisted.

Chris Marion. .
The boys were generous -with passes in
front of the Mitchell net but didn't manage
.to score again until 10 minutes into the third
when Chris Marion single handedly put one
in and then Mark Van Dooren, assisted by
Pat Gridzak, finished the game off 6-0 for
Seaforth.
The Novice team doesn't play at home un-
til November 27-29 (their yearly Novice

newcomer so will have some of the
disciplinary benefits a, coach from out of
town enjoys.
Mr. Nesbitt has never coached junior
hockey before, but has experience as a
coach in minor sports.- He coached midget
fastball for four years, and started and
coached a women's hockey team in 1973
which ran well and still runs today:
Aside from coaching experience Mr.
Nesbitthas a good hockey background hav-
ing played Junior B hockey in Petrolia for
the last half of 1973-74 and the first half of
1974-75. He also played on a juvenile team
that won the all -Ontario Championships.
The junior league he played In was very
competitive and 10 or 12 players from the
league made it to 'the NHL and about eight
still play. On his line was Bobby Gould of the
Washington Capitals.
Mr. Nesbitt has a different system to
teach the Centenaires, and wants to work on
defense, the power play, and the cen-
treman's job. He says the team has a, real
defensive problem.
"In our end the guys don't know where to
go or what to do," he said, adding this may
have something to do with it being such a
young team.
Mr. Nesbitt said he also wants to talk to
the guys on the team and see what they
think, but he said, his approach will be "my
way or the highway," and said the players
have to want to play or they won't be
around.
He doesn't however, expect the changes to
take place overnight.
