Thursday afternoon Gladys Van Egmond

was accompanied by smiles and hand clapp-
ing. Thank you very much for a delightful
afternoon.
Friday morning Gail Hills helped with
crafts. That morning the residents were
working on felt Christmas. stockings.
Friday afternoon Ruth Boch ran the Bingo
game. The bingo players were Elva Ellis,
Jean Johns; Anne . Henderson, Winona
McDougall, Isa Stanley, Ed .Johns, Laura
Toll, Ethel Coleman, Ann Crerar and Anna
Sherrin.
Welcome back to Martha McGregor who
returned to Maplewood after a stay in
Seaforth Community Hospital. Her
daughters-in-law Anne and Mary McGregor
helped her get settled in again.
Best wishes to Gertie- Taylor who
celebrated her eighty-fifth birthday on Sun-
day, November 8. ,

Maplewood residents finish crafts

Maplewood Manor's residents spent a an enjoyable hour. I

Mr. and Mrs. Pat Altman visited the lat-
ter's parents Dave and Eva Netzke on
Sunday.
Alex and Helen Chesney visited with the
latter's sister Alice Boyes, also Frank and
Margaret Smale, Cassie Nicholson and Ver-
- da Cameron.
Mary K. Ryan was visited by daughter
Mary Margaret, son Maurice and daughter
Geraldine Wilson. Also Last Friday she spent
the day at daughter Theresa's and George
Simpson in Dublin.
Visiting with Mamie Ross were Helen Kir-
by of Walton and her niece Mrs. Larry Jef-
frey of Goderich.
Visiting with Norma Jeffery were
Dorothy Harp, Viola Taylor, Thelma Dale,

On 'Monday, the residents gathered in the
dining room for bridge. The players were

Matheson and Anne Crerar.
Tuesday morning was the time to work on
the wood craft projects. With Ed Andrews
looking after the different stages of sanding
and varnishing and Marj Maloney helping
as the volunteer, many of the items received
their final varnishing. Pete Tremeer con-
tinues to make ,bird houses and lovely
cherry wood boxes.
Tuesday afternoon there was a good
crowd gathered for euchre. The group ;in-
cluded Ed Johns, Jean Johns, Gertie Taylor,
Anne Crerar, Lloyd Rowat, Isa Stanley and
Elsie Shaddick. •
Wednesday morning Rev. Chreyl Anne
Staudebauer Sampa came to Maplewood to
conduct the worship service. She was ac-
companied by many people from Egmond-
ville United Church congregation.. Her
helpers were Mervin and Helen Nott, Jean
Durst, Margaret Stephenson, Lois Moore,
Minna Scott, Olive and Thelma Pryce, Olive
Papple, Jan Delvecchjo and' her children

wastes - and their effect on the waste

three stages: Public participation and data

ment in the study area and how best to -im-
plement that system.
Exeter Reeve Bill Mickle said council
should be cautious in its approach to waste
management. "It's good to have this infor-
mation before us, but I feel we have to tread
very carefully," he said.

The Ontario Municipal Act does not lay
out the authority for waste management in
the form of a county concept, he said. In-
stead, the concept can be more closely
described as municipal, he added.
Mr. Mickle said he is concerned with the
possible legalities facing the county in order
to proceed, but he was assured that the
county guidelines are well within the boun-
daries of the act.
County Engineer Dennis Merrell agreed
with 14r. Mickle's opinion of the act's con-,
i! 1i. 1At rpresent, hesaid, the only 'way to
change the authority from the municipal to
county level is through a private member's
bill or by unanimous consent of all
municipalities within the county. Mr. Mer-
rall also said the cost involved with opening
and closing landfill sites has risen to the
point where townships and towns can now no
longer handle it through their assessment.
• Mr. Mickle also was critical of the provin-
tiial government for legislating programs
which imposed regulations on
municipalities while placing the cost for
those programs in the hands of the
municipal governments.
In other provinces where they have pass-
ed legislation imposing rules on
municipalities, the provincial government
pays all the costs, Mr. Mickle said. "It
