Librarian given
overdue book
excuses
To celebrate Library week two weeks ago.
the Seaforth library held &contest for local
children. The object was to see who could
find the best excuse for having their library
boos overdue, with the winner getting to
actually put his excuse to work for him and
be excused from library fines for having
books out too long.
Here are some of the excuses that kids
came up with.
Rebecca Broome claims. "this rocket
smashed through my roof and out popped an
alien. He had a blaster. He said if you don't
• give me that book I'll blast you. So I thought
you'd understand and gave the book to him.
• Anyway I didn't'want to get blasted.
• A second excuse by Rebecca says "LWas
carving out my jack -o -lantern. When I carv-
ed the mouth. it said It's about time. I was
waiting for hours. What'S that. I said it's my
• library book. He said I am going to see what
it tastes like and he ate it.
Lisa McKay's excuse was: "Well I, was
sitting in my bedroom when the doorbell
•
— rang I answered-17nm guy grabbed my
book right out of my hand and ran off with it.
I called the police but they thought I was ly-
ing so that's how I lost my book and I''was
just getting to the interesting part.
Pam Bennett claims "I was really into
this one book I couldn't put it down. I was on
a teeter totter one day and the girl on the
other end bumped me and the book flew up
into the air and a big pellican swallowed it
and I never saw it again.
Karen Skea says "I' was sitting in .the liv-
ing room watching T.V. when.all of a sudden
I decided to pick up my book and read it. It
was called Alice in Wonderland you know
Alice was reading a book. All of a sudden
she came out Of the book and grabbed my
book and went back inside and that's howl
lost my overdue book.
• Jessica Burgess' excuse is !'One day a
ghost came to my house, and he was invisi-
ble and he took the books and he made the
books invisible.
These are only some of the many excuses
the children who entered the contest came
up with. A winner of the contest has yet to be
declared.
