The league played host to ladies from Mit- chell, Seaforth, St. Columban, Brodhagen, Staffa ..and 'surrounding churches. Father Carrigan gave a few words of sup- port and Jo Van Loon, president, expressed words of welcome, Raffle winners were Catherine DeCorte, Seaforth, Ann Pappe, Dublin, Nancy Robertson, •Mitchell, Joanne Van Bakel, Dublin, Joan Cronin, Dublin, and Mary Deloyer, Dublin. There were ' also several door prizes donated' by local merchants, whom the CWL thanks. • To close off the evening a lunch was serv- ed by the ladies. " FIRST GRANT CHILD.. Dinner was served at 1 p.m. including a birthday cake and during 'the afternoon the adults enjoyed a game of cards with Mr. Crowley the winner. The children enjoyed a game of soccer and a movie. The topic for this meeting was on Ontario grown fruits and vegetables in salads. Members discussed the various types of lettuce and cabbage grown in Ontario as well 'as various fruits and vegetables that can be added to snake a delicious salad. The group also learned to make garnishes such as Radish Roses, Fruit Kebobs, Strawberry Fans, Tomato Flowers and many others. The meeting ended with the members en- joying the jellied. fruit salad and jellied vegetable salad they all helped to make. .The next meeting will be on October 27. Congratulations go out, to Mary Jo Ryan and John Nelson who were united in mar- riage on Friday evening, October 23 at St. Colurnban, Catholic Church by Father An- drew Sipek. Attendants for the bride and groom were Colleen Maloney, Maid of honor, bridesmaids Louise Ryan, Debbie Large, Mary Ellen Nelson, and Kathy Currie. Best man was David Carson and the ushers were Tom Pettigrew, Steve Large, Rick Neeb, ' and Mark Ryan. Amanda Ryan was the flower girl and Robert Parent was the ringbearer. Music was provided by the St. Columban Church Choir with" soloist Mary Coyne and organist Patsy Crowley. The wedding reception was held at the Mitchell Community Centre. Guests attending came from Chatham, Strathroy, London, Owen Sound, Hamilton, Kitchener, Stratford, Melbourne, Port Elgin, Southampton, Whitechurch, Toronto, Parkhill, Kinkora, Seaforth, Mitchell, Dublin and surrounding area. Crornarty WMS learns of Leprosy. Mission Cromarty Correspondent R. IAING 335-2326 Robert MacFarlane, representative of the Leprosy Mission in Ontario, was guest speaker at the October meeting of the Marian Ritchie Women's Missionary Socie- ty;in Cromarty Presbyterian Church. Mr. 'MacFai`t}'rfe spoke of the Leprosy Mission in Canada, Asia, and Africa, stating the first need of those with leprosy is emo- tional. They have to know they are not.out- casts, someone cares for them, and they can be healed and become a useful person in society. Leprosy is only mildly contagious and can be cured by antibiotics in six mon- ths to two years if found in the earliest stages. The loss of fingers and toes is usual- ly the result of a secondary infection because the nerve has been destroyed and the person feels no pain when he injures himself by burns and/or 'cuts. Following the showing of a film of the work in Indonesia, Mr. MacFarlane was thanked by Roberta Templeman. Ruth Laing presided for the 'Worship ser- vice with Betty Lou Norris as pianist for the Thanksgiving hymns. A prayer of Thanksgiving •was delivered by Alice Gardiner. Jean Carey was in charge of the devotions and was assisted by Lillian Douglas and Ed- na Stoneman. The roll call, a Thanksgiving verse, was answered by 15 members and there were five guests present. Dorothy Taylor of Hensall, brought greetings from the Stratford -Huron Presbyterial of the Women's Missionary Society. Doris Miller gave a topic on give thanks. During the business, presided over by Bet- ty Lou Norris, it was decided the remainder of the allocation be sent to the Presbyterial treasurer and $25 to Ewart College. For the program number, Muriel Scott read an excerpt from Margaret Taylor's book about her father, the Rev. R. G. MacKay, who was a former minister at Cromarty. Staffa women see handwriting analysis Staffa Correspondent MRS. JOHN TEtPLEMAN 345-2346. Dorothy Chapman, Exeter was the guest speaker at the Bibbed United Church Women's annual Thanksgiving Coffee hour held in the Family Life Center on Wednes- day morning. Mrs. Chapman gave a presen- tation on how to analyse one's handwriting, Mrs, Chapman was introduced by Doris Jeffery and thanked by Irene Drost. Guests were greeted at the door and served refresfuneet ts, prepared by Freda Kerslake; Esther Smale and Irene Finlayson. Florence McPhail chaired the program opening with a poem on Thanksgiving and everyone joining in singing the Prayer of Thanksgiving with Mary F. Dow accompa- nying on the piano. Florence gave an in- teresting talk on Thanksgiving. London Area Convention . Doris Miller, Verle Mahon, Margaret Daynard, Hazel Harburn, Margaret Kemp and Roberta Templeman attended the Lon- don Area Convention this past week in St. Mary's. 4-H Club In the Staffa No. 14.11 club there are eight members. Leaders are, Mrs. Doris Jeffery and Freda Kerslake. At the meetings they have learned many interesting things about On- tario's fulls and vegetables; such as how to cook them, methods of serving them, and their nutritional value. They have sampled several. different recipes in the book and have enjoyed most of them. For meeting six they decided to at- tend a meeting in Dublin where a health nurse would be speaking. Members have now completed four meetings andeveryone has enjoyed the meetings and food sampling so far. People Doris Miller visited Thursday with her sister Jean Maver, Exeter.
