Seahawks: Intermediate club .to pick up where Beavers left off
Intermediate hockey , has returned to
Seaforth with the formation of the new
team, the Seaforth Seahawks.
The last year Seaforthhad a;team in the
Intermediate League was in 1975. That
team, -called the Beavers, started in the
1,961-G2 season and kept most of the sane
player's throughout its years in the league.
In fact; it is the same Beavers'team that is
now the Oldtiniers'teamin Seaford),and
there are eight players who have been
playing together for•the last 26 years. .,
The Beavers did very well as an in-
termediate team, winning the provincial'
1
championships as a?ntermediate 'B' team
for •three -consecutive years starting' in'
' 1964. They • later became a 'C' .team
because the competition was closer, and
they took two more all -Ontario champion-
ships in that division.

Mr., Nesbitt also believes the team could ,.
draw a lot of support from Seaforth's
many hockey fans. ,

The Seahawks played their first ever
game on Friday night when they hosted,
the Kincardine Kings for an exhibition
match:
For their first game on .the ice 'the
Seahawks came out flying and after the
first period they had a lead of 4-0. Goals

Centenaires 1
The Seaforth Centenaires had another
frustrating week as they played Belmont on
Wbdnesday, Mitchell on Friday, • and
Wellesley on Sunday.
In the earliest game of the week the team
suffered a loss in Belmont by a score of 6-2.
The game got away from the referees and
there were a lot of fights. The result was
Seaforth lost four players who had to serve
two game suspensions for fighting two or
three times after the whistle blew. If there's

games the team may be heading to tour-

players who have„been .out with the
Seahawks who played for Brussels' in-
termediate team last year. They think the
new team should do all right.
• Graham Nesbitt, another potential
player for the nets club, has, played in-
termediate hockey around the Chatham
area and he too is 'optimistic about the
team's ability.

Brad Carter, Kevin Williamson assisted by
Mike Betties, Jason . McNichol from Blair

Carter with another assist to Kevin William --
son. -•
The second period waa a toughbne for the
Seaforth squad and they blew their lead,
allowing two goals past goalie Ray Anstett,
and not scoring themselves.
The third perod was hard fought and,
Seaforth came up with four goals, three
scored by Mike Betties, and all . three
assisted by Kevin Melady. Brad Carter was
also in on two of the goals, and Darren Akey
was credited with an assist for one. Kevin
Melady added to the Centenaires tally with
help from Darren Akey.and Mike Betties.
Wellesley managed to match Seaforth
goal for goal and did them one better. The
score was 10-8 with 2:20,left-on-the -clock
when the Centenaires called for a stick
check on a Wellesley player. The stick was
found to be illegal and,the Centenaires went
on the power play.
The Wellesley club held the Centenaires
off until one of their ,players got a penalty..
for interference at 1:12. Seaforth capitaliz-
ed on the two man advantage and Brad
Carter scored with 53 seconds left on the
clock, assist going to goalie Ray Anstett.
However with the 53 seconds left on' the
clock the home team couldn't manage to.get
the tying goal and the final score was 10-9
for Wellesley,
The Centenaires record is now onewin
and six losses. Their next chance to improve
this record will be on October 23 'when they
will'be in Clinton. Their next home game
will be October 25 when they will host
