19A -- THE HURON EXPOSITOR, OCTOBER '21, 1987
High school hockey a distinct possibility
There may be another new hockey team
in town besides the Intermediate team.
For the first time in Seaforth history there
may be whigh school hockey team.
Formation of the team is still in its initial
stages, and there will have to be a discua•••
sion amongst those who control theextra-
curricular activities at the Seaforth
District High Sehool, but . right new'
chances are pretty good there will be a •
team, •• , ,
"We have a concern that we don't want
to interfere with basketball and other pro-
grarns,-"--said Jim—Moorer:twhe will be--
coaChing the team if there is One. "
"But I don't think We will interfere and it
••

looks like we will go ahead."
Mr. Moore said there is a concern in the
county that schools are duplicating some
of the programs offered by 'the com-
munities. AU 'county communities, for ex-
ample, already have a minor hockey
system. But, the only, place. basketball is
offered is in schools. For this reason a
basketball team will be given preference
over hockey if the two are found to be in
conflict. But for now Mr. Moore doesn't
believe the two will come into conflict.
Mr. Moore, who is also the vice-principal
at S D El S lias_harl a long_haekgnumsliin _
hoakef and played high school hockey
himself in London. :He has also been a local
minor hockey coach and has helped at the
hockey ,school. •
There have been 35 kids who showed an
interest in playing for the club, They are
willing to give up their lunch hours two or
three times every week to get in practice'
time. While there is only an hour for lunch, ,
Mr. Moore said he feels they should beable '
to get in 35-40 minutes of practice each
time.
Mr. Moore said it looks like the hockey
'team will be a young team, with .most of
the players coming from Grades 9, 10 and
11. The older kids aren't restricted from
playing, bu most 9f them are a rea • y in -
