McKillop 1 441 club discusses fruit production
At the fourth meeting of the McKillop No.
1 4-1.1 Club, held at the Rumford home,
members read about and discussed fruit
production in Ontario and, tried -to name
some local fruit farmers. They were then
shown by youth leader Connie• ' McClure

juice.

PRIMARY BOYS - The 'primary boys did very well at the track meet and placed first
overall. Mark VanDooren, °Boyd Devereaux, Srand6n Nash; Chris• Marion, Robbie
Craig and Jered Munro were all part of the winning team. Boyd Devereaux placed first
overall and Chris Marion placed sixth,
prepared three recipes — Strawberry
Rhubarb Punch, Fruit Yogurt Desert and
Fruit Sparkle Sauce.
For the next meeting members are to
prepare a one minute Ontario Foodland
advertisement for•their favorite fruit.
Members of the McKillop No. 1 441 club
discussed howto cook vegetables several
different ways at their third meeting. It was
held at The Bosman home. Stir fry,Ranning,•
steaming, boiling, and microwaving were
the methods discussed.
Member were alio' taught the do's and
don'ts of preparing tender vegetables. They
did a taste test of the different ways of cook-
ing vegetables 'using carrots as the exam-
ple. They tried some seasoned butters on the
carrots, including ' basil, oregano and
parsley.. Membersthen tasted the,stit fry
fall vegetables and were given a demonstra-
tion by Connie McClure on different' ways pf.

Monday. morning found Queensway
resident intnotion at Fun and Fitness'class
in the ActiVity Room. A super way to begin
-the week. Inthe afternoon they met for
ladies hour and pampered themselves a lit-
tle 'With perfume and makeup.

Thanksgiving Church Service with
Reverend Wright. Thank you to Rev. Wright
for a very meaningful Service also to Lorne
JOhnston who sang "Bringing in' the
Sheaves," Mildred Gingerich who did a
beautiful solo, "We Plow the Fields and
Scatter" and Lillian Smith who contributed
a Thanksgiving story. Joyce Pepper and
Carol Gaschd sang two duets. AfterwardS.
residents enjoyed -tea. buscuits and apple
butter which they had purchased on' a trip to
Steckles greenhouse.
Wednesday the Ladies Auxiliary had their
'monthly meeting. They are planning a
Christmas Craft and Bake Sale and Tea,
November 18. They are looking forward to
community involvement in this event.
Thursday afternoon many residents par-
ticipated in a sing song. In the evening there
was an excellent turnout for the movie
feature "Mash". This is the movie that in -
Spired the T.V. series of the same nanie..•
Friday residents met for Crafts. Elsie
Mathers and Eileen , Rennie of the Ladies
Auxiliary were in to assist as they worked
on items in preparation for the Craft and
Bake sale. Residents are especially having
fun with candle making using Beeswax from
Fergusons Apiaries.

meeting of Kippen' 3 - 4-H Club, which was
held at Brucefield United Church on Tues-
day, October .13: .For the roll call each
member had to write a speech. Members
then split into groups to plan a party for the
sixth meeting., Then they. ithmoulded jellos,
and came to'the best part of the meeting by
sampling the jello • and tea biscuits. which

Dorothy Munroe spent the weekend in
Lucan with her daughter Patsy and family.
Margaret Mole had a Saturday visit from
her daughter and son-in-law' Lois and Don
Walden from Kincardine.
Irene Finlayson and Hilda Payne attend-
ed the U.S.C.O. Zone and Rally at
Holmesville last Wednesday. Approximate-
ly 150 beok,part.
THREE LINKS SENIORS
The regular meeting of the Three Links
Seniors was opened by Past' President
Hilda PayneNeralResrplatvetfthe piano for-
O'Canada. One minute's silence was observ-
ed in.memory of Aldeen Volland and Myrtle
Sherritt.
Eileen Rennie conducted the installation
of Officers as follows: President, Evelyn
Flynn; Secretary, Hilda Payne; Treasurer,
Dorothy Brintnell; Card Convenor, Gertie
Moir.
.• Evelyn Flynn then took the chair to
pres,ide over the rest of the meeting. Seven-.
• teen members and three visitors answered
the roll, correspondence was, read, cards of
appreciation. from Anita Bengough and
from the family of Myrtle Sherritt. Hilda
mentioned that she had received one also
from Clarence Volland but had left it at
home.
The Fall Rally was held on Wednesday,
October 14 with 6 local -members attending,
our president bringing home a prize. A
notice of an upcoming Workshop, New
Direction, in Huronview's auditorium to be
held on November 12 was tabled until the
next meeting. Six cards were sent last
month. Next month the social committee
will consist Of Nellie Riley, Annie Reid and
Irene Finlayson. God Save The Queen- was
sung to close the meeting.
Euchre was conducted by Pearl
McKnight, Margaret Mole and George and
Eileen Dowson. No one opted for crokinole.

A Euchre Party, open to the public, will be
held at the hall on Tuesday, October 27 at 8
p.m. Admission is $1.50 and ladies are asked
to bring lunch. The executive is in charge.

Sim Roobot returned home last week after
a 6 1/2 week stay at St. Joseph's Hospital in
London. We would like to wish him a speedy
recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Steve Corbett and Cecilia
entertained at a luncheon in honor of Laura
Jeanne following her baptism on Sunday.
Those attending to celebrate with her were

Worshippers at Hensall United Church
were greeted on Sunday by Mary O'Brien
and led to their seats by_Daryl„Preszcator,
Jeff Corbett, Lorne Gackstetter and Peter
Pryde.
Junior Minister -Rob Gackstetter gave the
Epistle Lesson. The Senior Choir, with
Belva nisi on organ, sang "On Jordan
River".
Following Rev. Wright's sermon about
God and Caesar the Sunday School children
returned to witness the baptism Of little
Laura Jeanne Corbett,. daughter Of Steven
and Janine Corbett.
Weekly craft bees held to prepare
crafts for the Sunday School Classes are
held Thursday mornings at 945 at Hensall
United Church.
The Bible Study Group will•meet for the
first time -at 10 a.rn. on Tuesday, October 27
at the Church. The group will be looking at
The First Letter to Peter. Everyone is most
welcome to attend. Please bring your Bible.
Sessions will last about 1 112 hours.
Unit 3 of the U.C.W. will hold their annual
Bazaar on Friday, November 3 at 3 p.m. •
