LOCO! teams tops
in soccer league
St, Columban soccer teafns were very suc-
cessful In their first year of competition in
the Lucan and District Soccer League. •
•The Squirt and Atom teams both went
• undefeated for the season and 'eventually
capturedthei.r respective league
championships.
. The Pee Wees finished first after regular'
season play and were playoff finalists.
The Mosquitos were third after season
••play and also finished as playoff finalists.
In out -of -league action the Mosquitos
• finished. second behind Exeter in' a tourna-
ment playedlIFST7-C6 ulinban.

playoff and tournament play.
Jaguars are tops
in St. James
• bowling league.

The Jaguars jumped into first place in the
• St. James B6wling League on 'Monday,
September 21 when they downed the Tigers
7-0.
Gerry Armstrong led his team with gamei
of 224 and 291 for a 714 triple. Pat Kenny
with 218 - 615 and Albert Boven with 220 - 557 •
• also bowled well for the Jaguars. •
. The Lions outscored the Leopards 7-0 but
all games were very close.. Murray' Ben-
newies with 291-696; Brenda Kenny. 205-495
and Bob Feeney 201-468 led the Lions.
• Sandy Broadforit with 238 - 632 and Ken
Moran 213 - 597 topped the Leopards. •
The Cougars jumped into a second place
tie with the Lions by downing the Panthers
7-0. Cathy Broome with 232 - 622; Richard
Love 218 - 598 and, Kevin Broome 240 - 584
were top bowlers for the Cougars:
Dan Bennewies 243 - 690 and Jim Dalrym-
ple 226 - 522 were best for the' Panthers.
Team standings are: Jaguars - 12, Lions -
9, Cougars - 9, Panthers - 5, Tigers - 5 and
Leopards - 2.

• The Men's Night Closing on Saturday was
an 18 hole competition followed by a steak
barbecue. Winners were: 1st low gross Joe
Dick 69, 1st low net Phil Hoggarth 64, 2nd
low gross Ken Doig Jr. 75, 2nd low net Brett
Finlayson 67, 3rd low gross Mike Marion 76,
3rd low net Moe Huard 67, 4th low gross
Doug Elliott 79, 4th low net Bob Henderson
70, 5th low gross Jerome Aubin 79, 5th low
netReith Lovell 71, 6th low gross Ed Malkus
81, 6th low net Leighton Lynch 72, 7th low

Closest to the pin on number 5 was Ed
• Malkus and on number 9 Frank Verberne.

The Greatest Handicap reduction was
won by Cern Holland who reduced his han-
dicap from 21 to 13. •
Following the prize presentation the men
elected 1988 officers. President will be

Henderson with co-ordinators Brett
Finlayson and Mike Marion. The men voted
to change men's night to Tuesday in 1986 '
and will plan a meeting for late April to get
men's night revived.
The ladies closing was attended by about
30 ladies on Sunday afternoon in spite of the
inclement weather. The ladies played a nine
hole team best ball followed by dinner and
card's. Every lady won a prize.
The greatest handicap reduction winner
was Allyson Scott who reduced her handicap
from 31 to 25.
The best ringer score was won by C.A.

Doig, Rita Cone had the most chip -ins and
Liz Cardno and Rita Core were both award-
ed "break 100" prizes. Gail Price was con-
gratulated. On successfully defending' her
match play title. Bunn Langstaff won
closest to the pin.
The ladies will hold off electing officers
until the first Monday of May (May 1988).
The most improved,,,Jonior golfer was
Aaron Broome who reduced his handicap
from 24 to 13.
Members and non -met nbers are invited to
the Turkey Shoot on Sunday at 2 pm - 9 holes
of golf followed by a pot luck supper rain or
shine. Come on out!
LAWN BOWLING took place in Seaforth
last Wednesday as a tournament was
hosted by the local club. It wasWell attend-
ed by bowlers from around the Huron and
outside IL
Lawnbowling action resumed in Seaforth
• on Wednesday, September 21, when the
local club hosted the Lorne Dale Trophy
Tournament. '
The tournament was supposed to have
• been played a month ago but was postponed
because of rain. It was an open tournament
• and.teams from London, Dresden, Clinton,
Forrest and Lucknow were in attendance as
well as the more local teams.
Thetournament was won by Walter
Newcombe and Della Slavin of Clinton. It
wasthe team's third time winning the
trophy.
In second place were Jack and Jane
Treleaven of Lucknow and in. third Allen
Gledhill and Mrs. Aberhart of Goderich.
• Fourth place went to Jack McDonald and
his wife Audrey of Lucknow, fifth place went
to jack Priestly and partner from Dresden
and sixth place was won by Harvey
Scrimgeour and his wife Grace from
Goderich. The consolation prize was won by
Stan Bitten and Thelma Coombs of Seaforth.
