September 19. The couple pent most of their marriage in Dashwood where they ran a.
shoe store, and retired to the nursing home in 1972. Mr, Pfile will be 88 years of age in

For the children's tirne Rev. Wright began Registration for Hensall and District

Organist Belva Fuss led the congregation
in the singing of "In Christ there is no East
or West's. A beautiful pair of candles and a
candle lighter were dedicated from •the
memorial fund.

appree' . the dedication and devotion with

A large area rug is required for
Messenger and Explorer meetings. Anyone
with a suitable rug they .would like to donate

The Senior Choir will meet on Thursday
night at 7:30 and the Junior Choir meets at.
9:45 a.m. on Saturdays. •
Weekly Craft Bees to prepare crafts for
the Sunday School are held at 9:30 a.m. on
Thursdays. Extra hands are always
appreciated. .

• To qualify for membership, the boys must
be the following ages on or before December
31/1987. Beavers - 5, 6, 7, Cubs - 8; 9, 10,
Scouts - 11, 12, 13, Ventures 14, 15, 16y 17.
If anyone is interested in helping out as a
leader or a member of the parent's commit-
tee call Marg Clarke at -262-2032.
SERVICE TEAM
Young men aged 18-26 single or married
who would like to help forma Rover Team
in Hensall can call Seott Murray 262-3138 or
Les Gardner 262-2617. -
The Rovers are a Service Team who help
out in the community and take part in
recreational outdoor activities. They are in-
dependent of other.. Scouting Groups and
raise their own funds. _
LEADERSHIP COURSE
Ken Clarke and Tom Bailey were in Blue
Springs over the weekend to continue their
leadership course. They hope to complete
their level II training early in October.

Apple day in Hensall will be held October
16 and 17.• •
It's fund raising time for many organiza-
tions. Young people will be knocking on
doors•: and selling cheese in . support of the
Figure Skating Club. They may also be
seeking sponsors for the Minor Hockey
skate-a-thon. Please be generous. '

Queensway residents
enioy Huron Strings
Monday .afternoon several Queensway
. residents enjoyed Bingo. Jessie Archer was
the volunteer. She is thanked for providing
the prizes.
• Tuesday morning residents, worked out at
Fun and Fitness, and played several games
afterwards. In the 'afternoon Reverend,
Hawley brought the message "NO Greater
Love" and Rob Cameron was pianist.
. Wednesday afternoon the choir practised
with Joyce Pepper as pianist. ' Choir
members especially enjoy after practice
having Joyce play many requests, a fre-
quent one is "Don't Fence Me In."
On Thursday, the Green Thumbs Club met
and planted several African Violet slips:
Some of the residents were fortunate enough
to spend a day at the Western Fair escorted
by Wilma Rea and Nancy Phillips. In the .
evening residents 'viewed a movie feature
"Old Yeller". .
Friday afternoon the Baking Club,met and
sliced and buttered fruit loaves and arrang-
• ed cheese trays for the special day Satur-
day. Saturday the "Huron Strings" played
from 2-4 p.m. Also stepdancers Kimberley
and Crystal Bliley and Mariana Roy were
present. It was a wonderful' afternoon for
residents and their guests.

The World Affairs Meeting of Kippen East ,
Women's Institute was held on Wednesday,
September 16 at the home of hostess
Dorothy Bell in Exeter.: President Grace
Drummond opened with a poem and
welcomed the two guests from England -
Violet Ashard and Janet Hollingbery,
mother and sister of Margaret Hoggarth.
Roll call'was'answered'bymerribers'9hew-
inga flag of another country. American,
United Kingdom, Denmark, Scotland, New
Zealand, Japanese, Hungarian, German,
Turkish, and Yugoslavian flags were all
shown.
Mary Broadfoot had to pay a 20 cent fine
for failing to wear her institute pin. Grace
Drummond gave a reading "What is Coun-
try?”, and passed around the new handbook
which has been revised.
Members were reminded Kippen East
will be hostess for the District Annual in
1988. •
Margaret Hoggarth read the motto "Peo-
ple are like fire, they take on new life when
stirred a bit". This was written by Sheila
Gymer a member of Theydon Bois W.I. in
Essex England. The topic exchange with
Theydon Bois W.I. was given by a member
from that institute. Janet Hollingbery, who
explained where Theydon Bois is in
England. They meet in the Village Hall on
ever -third Wednesday same as Kippen
East. Theydon Bois W.I. was formed in 1919
and boasts at least 100 members. They hold
Strawberry Teas, Bazaars, Pancake Races,
and serve ploughmen's lunches to raise
rn6iey. To close her presentation a draw
was made for articles brought from
England. Winners were: Ruby Triebner and
Helen MacLean, calendars depicting village
signs in Essex. Grace Drummond - W.I.
Diary. Rena Caldwell - Notelets. Mattie
McGregor and Mona Alderdice each won a
tea towel showing scenes of London. Janet
Rollingbery then presented Grace Drum-
mond with their institute pin, which .is. dif-
ferent from ours. Margaret Hoggarth thank-
ed Janet and presented a W.L plate and
stand for the' president of Theydon Bois -
Sylvia Keith. Grace Drummond then read
"putting a damper on it". Mary Broadfoot
gave courtesy remarks, and the Royal An- •
them was sung. Lunch was served by Grace
Eyre and Mary Broadfoot assisted by
Dorothy Bell and Grace Drununohd.
4-H NEWS
The first meeting of Kippen 3 - 4-H club
was held 6n Tuesday, September 15 at
Brucefield United Church. "A taste of On-
.tario fruits and vegetables" is the topic For
this club.
• The roti call was answered by members
telling the group of their favorite fruit and
vegetable. Election of officers followed.
Results were: President - Kate Papple.
Vide President - Sherri McLaughlin.
Treasurer - Heather Jackson.
Seeretary/Treasurer - floating. After going
over meeting I part in our books we went hi -
16 the kitchen to prepare `Gatpachio', a cold
soup, broiled vegetable sandwiches on rye
bread, and tut Zucchini strips. They were
all very good. Leaders for this club are Barb

St. Andrews United Church met at 10 a.m.
on Sunday, Septernb'er 20 with. Barbara
Cooper at the organ.' Rev. Lorne Keays read
fr`oin St. Paul's letter to the Philippians.. His
sermon, as well as his children's story show-
ed ways in which disappointihents may be
dealt tccessfully.
Werld Wide Communion is October 4. Si.
Andrews will observe the sacrament of Holy
Communion on that Sunday.
The choir will practice following next Sun- •
day's service. New and former members
are welcome.
The South Huron United Church Women
regional meeting will be held in Grand Bend
United Church on Tuesday, September 29.
