Branch holds appreciation night
The Seaforth Legion held its first meeting
of the new season on Thursday with 25
members present. The meeting was chaired
by 1st Vice President Mel Melanson, as
President Jim Watson is in hospital with a
serious knee complaint. He is wished 'O
speedy recovery.
' Several requests for donations were read
and passed with one referral .for further
study. There will be a booth at the fall fair
this year under the direction of Frank
Phillips. Entertainment Chairman John
Lansihk has'also volunteered to have a float.

member was initiated and one member was'
passed for ordinary membership. Welcome
to the Royal Canadian Legion.
A pleasant event was held Saturday even-
ing when the Branch held an Appreciation'
night for Comrade 'Frank Phillips, and
honored him for his faithful years of service
to the Branch. Ann Wood, president of the
Ladies Auxiliary, presented Frank with a
wallet containing a sum of money and the
Branchdined-Frank-and-his_wife_Marge and
presented them with a clock. Frank made a
very suitable reply. Lunch was served by
the Ladies Auxiliary at the conclusion of the
evening.

There will be a seminar for Poppy and
PRO in Clinton Wednesday evening at 8
p.m. Anyone wishing, to attend should con-
tact Mel Melanson. On Sunday Zone C1 will
hold its fall convention in Seaforth. There
will be a parade to the cenotaph at 1 p.m. -
with the meeting to follow. The President
would like to see as many as possible attend
this meeting.
The bar roster for the coming week is as ,

September 22, D. McCauley; September 23,
M. Marion; September 24,. D. -Smale;
September 25, R. Harris. Anyone unable to

Legion Auxiliary initiates new member

At a recent meeting Mary Margaret
Brown was initiated into the Seaforth
Legion Ladies Auxiliary by President Ann
Wood. ••
The Zone
• e C1 Bowling tournament was
held in SeaforthSeptember 12 with 11 teams
entered. The Exeter team, captained by B.
Hearn, came in first. Seaforth, lead by Ann
Wood, came second and Goderich came.
third. Seaforth's team consisted of Mrs.
Wood, Marg Ungarian, Janet Rice, Helen -
Ann Elliott, B.etty Hulley and Annie
Malcolm. Jean Haliman had the high triple,
589, and Ann Wood the high single, 221. A
50-50 draw was won by Gwen Harburn.
Coming up in the Zone is Cribbage at
Brussels on October 3 and Zone Darts on Oc-
. box five feet tall was wheeled in -and Mr.
tober 17 in Clinton. Anyone wishing to take
part in these events. should .contact Annie
Malcolm.
Sports officer Annie Malcolm would like
to thank anyone who helped in any way to
make the Zone Bowling the success it was.
The bus trip is drawing closer and anyone
who has not paid her fare is asked to do so at ..
her earliest convenience. Peg or Barbara
will be pleased to accept this. There are' still
two seats left on the bus if there is anyone
else who would like to go. .

Loyal Service Branch 156."
But the highlight of the gift giving came
when the branch presented Mr. Phillips with
a present that "we would like Frank to take

Phillips Was told to pull on a rdpe hanging
outof the present. He gave the rope a tug
and out burst - not a ,bionde - but Jim
(Budgie) Burdge a man who is constantly
matching wits with Mr. Philips.
"Jim and J razz each other but he has
become a good friend," says Mr. Phillips of
his 'present'. •

Everyone had a few laughs and a good,
time and gave.their best to Mr. Phillips.
'It was fantastic, one of the biggest nights
of my life. For me and my wife.'.
After his retirement from the Legion's
bar, Mr. Philips remained on the Legion
. Membership Committee and continues to
look after and add .to the collection of war
• memorabilia. " .
Aside from the Legion, he will continue to
• be a wedding photographer for a While, and
is also gathering wood to. continue,one of his
hobbies .of woodworking this winter. But
mostly he will be keeping up with what he
- lists as his first hobby. Having fun.
