A Seniors Trebles team for Seaforth won '" " "--""
the District.. Four lawnbowling playdowns
held in Clinton; August 13 in a series of high-
scoring games.
The team of Bill Brown -lead,, Neil Bell -
vice 'and John Patterson -skip, hadlittle'
trouble taking the round-robin style totirna-
ment in four games: They lost only one.
The competition started at 10 a.m• and
went until 10:30 p.m. in a series of well -
played games that were complicated when
three out Of four teams were tied at the end
of the first round.
The -three -teams -.had -to -play iue_ends—
before the Seaforth team pulled out of the
race winning the entire competition. The
team lost their first game but came back in
the next four gameswith high scores of 32-0
and 14-4.
"The points don't count, it'sthe wins,
said Mr. Patterson, adding it was nice to get
high scores but the number of games won •
was more important.
District Four covers the area of Stratford
to Lucknow to Exeter and Goderich. The
four teams in competition were Clinton, Mit-
chell, Exeter and Seaforth.
The trebles team'will now compete in the
Provincial playdowns to be held in Bramp-
ton September 2 and 3. Mr. Patterson said 16
teams will be fighting for the Provincial
title.
In previous years, there have been many
competitors in the Seaforth men's division
making it'difficult, to get to the District
games. This year Mr. Patterson said they
had no trouble because theirs was the only
'team registered.
The trebles team are practically veteran's

Veterans remember Dieppe raid
Most would remember that last VNednes
day, August 19 was the 45th Anniversary of
the Dieppe Raid where so many Canadians
were killed, wounded and taken prisoner for
the duration of the war. Today Dieppe is a
quiet city catering to tourists from all parts
of the World. The Military Cemetery is close
by, where the Canadians are buried. In this
month's Legionary there is a good account
of one soldier's experience during the raid
and his subsequent capture (page 6 of July -
August issue).
Back in the Branch an evening of Lawn
Bowling was held a week ago last Friday
with some 30 members present. After the
bowling the members were treated to a corn
roast supplied by the entertainment com-
mittee. It is uncertain who all made the
evening possible but Jack Muir, and John
Lansink were there and maybe they would
thank their committees on behalf of the rest
of the Legion members.

This past Saturday the Branch held its An-
nual Seniors golfing tournament at the local
golf club with 30 golfers participating. The
scores were not the best but with the han-
dicap system they sounded good. Jack
Eisler was declared the winner with a score
of 69. All the other old fellows received a
prize too. It is hoped all can be back next
year as the day was enjoyed by all. On
behalf of the Branch thanks goes to Linda
for her effort and also Dave Watson for the
help he gave Linda and for cleaning the
debris away when all was done. It was -very
much appreciated by Leo and all who were
present.
