Maplewood residents enjoy relaxing week
Residents at Maplewood Manor enjoyed a
relaxing week with the major participation
reserved for bridge and euchre games.
On Monday there were six players for the
bridge game, They were Agnes Hunter,
Jean Guy, Anne Crerar, Austin Matheson,
Lloyd Rowat and Charles ,Bemister.
Tuesday euchre was played. The
residents that carne out were Pete Tremeer,
Anne Rule, Gertie Taylor, Jean. Guy, lean
Elliott, Anne Crerar, Austin Matheson,,
Monica McCurdy, Elsie Shaddick, Edgar
Allan, Lloyd Rowat and Isa Stanley. Anne
Downey and Greta Kerr, both volunteers,
• came in to help with the game. There was a
door prize and it was won by Greta Kerr.
On Wednesday the bridge club met again.
The players were Wilson Tremeer, Jean
Johns, Anne Crerar, Austin Matheson and
Lloyd Rowat.
• The musical day last week was Thursday.
Mrs. Rose came in and played the piano in
the morning. All the residents were
gathered in the lounge where there was lots
of humming to the old familiar songs.
• Also on Thursday Jack Riddell, accora:
panied by Effie Stephenson, came for lunch.
The residents took great pride in having
him. Mr. Riddell was seated for lunch with
Gertie Taylor and Elsie Shaddick. Mrs.
Stephenson introduced Mr. Riddell to the
residents. After lunch residents had time to
chat with Mr. Riddell before he ad to be on
his way.
On Thursday afternoon Drusilla Leitch

as fiddles. Agnes Hunter, Ann Crerar, Isa
Stanley and Helen Dallas really enjoy these
classes.
On Friday a bingo game was arranged for
the morning. Sandi Polland was in charge.
game were handed out to the winners: Anne
Henderson and Wilson Tremeer both won
the straight line. Cards were drawn and
Anne Henderson won the draw. Jean Guy
won for the letter X, Anne Crerar for the let-
ter T, and Isa Stanley for the letter L. On
Friday night Annie Rule, Ann Henderson
and Helen Dallas got together for a game or
two.
Since it was so humid Saturday and Sun-
day everyone relaxed and tried to beat the
heat. Even though the weather was not over
agreeable, there were many visitors. Sorne
of the residents had people stopping in and
others went-out-fra-• the day. Each -person
made up for the terrible weather one way or
another. •

Local youth group returns
Friends and Family Day was held July
25th at Circle "C" Ranch, Delevan, New.
York with' 1500 in attendance. The South
Huron Youth For Christ Quiz Team travell-
ed to the United States to participate in the
quizzing finals. The team included Lori
Henderson, Seaforth; Kathleen Little. Ex-
eter; Jacque Lobb, Clinton; Bill Rhynard,
Clinton; Jeff Westlake, Bayfield; and
Michele Whalen, Clinton, along with
coaches Ron and Pat Westlake from
Bayfield.

Ranch, was the speaker at the afternoon ral-
ly and music was provided by the Circle "C"
'Quartet. Then the top three teams,' out of a
possible 35 teams from the Winter Retreats
who came from several different states,
took part in the quiz finals. The Youth For
Christ team placed second the last two
years: •
This year they won the trophy by
placing first and brought the trophy to
Canada for the first time. A professional
Christian Rodeo concluded the afternoon
program.
Boltons gather for reunion
The Bolton Family gathered at Family
Paradise Campground for the 46th Bolton
Reunion.
Len and Deb Jamieson conducted ap en-
joyable sports program. Winners in the
races were five and under - Leanne
Jamieson, eight and nine - Kim 'Jamieson,
Robbie Heimpel, (10 and 11) lst round - Nan-
cy Stewart, Chrystal Cucksey, Jennifer
Cucksey, 2nd (10 and 11) Erin Jamieson,
Shannon Craig, Susan Stewart, 12 and over -
Matthew Elliott, Michael Craig.
In the 12 and under Wheel Barrow Race,
winners were Kim Jamieson and Shannon
Craig, Susan and Nancy Stewart, Jennifer
Cucksey and Robbie Hehtmel. Matthew
Elliott and Shannon Craig kicked their
shoes the farthest under 14. The kick the
Slipper winners over 14 were Paul Bolton -
and Abby Smith. Two teams, Erin Jamieson
team and Bob Pryce team tied in the
clothespins in a jug relay. Dave and Debbie
Campbell made the longest catch to win the
Balloon Toss. President Bob Pryce welcom-
ed everyone and got the business underway.
Secretary, Helen Craig read the account of
the last picnic. A minute's silence was held
for several who had died in the past 2 years.
The picnic will continue in 2 years on the
third Sunday in August. Officers for the pic-
nic are Past Pres: -Bob Pryce, Pres. -Bob
Elliott, Vice Pres. -Carl Bolton,
Sec.-Treas.-Helen Craig, Food Committee -
Jack and Betty Glousher. Harvey and San-
dra Heimpel, Beth Pryce, §ports -Gordon
and Irma Pryce, Ken and Brenda Cucksey,
Paul Bolton.
Elimination Contest winner was Harvey
Heimpel. Prizes were given to Gordon
Elliott -oldest, Leanne Jamieson -youngest,
Bob and Eileen Pryce-coming farthest, Paul
Bolton-closegt birthday, Mac and Ann
Bolton -closest anniversary who celebrataed
their 25th Anniversary this year. Bob Pryce
had the best guess for jelly beans in a jar.
Courtesies were extended and campground
activities enjoyed.

Morrison dam
Mrs. Dan O'Rourke was hostess for the
Women's Institute August meeting. There
was a good attendance of members and
visitors.
Mrs. John MacLean conducted the
business and Mrs. Lorne Dale was in charge
of the program. She opened with a poem and
a reading, Mrs. Lorne Lawson gave a
reading, "A Bowl of Money".
Mrs. Dale introduced Mary McLeod who
demonstrated. rug braiding and ,displayed
several of her rugs. Mrs. Pipe gave courtesy
remarks and the lunch committee served a
lunch.
Wednesday several W.I. members went to
Morrisons Dein for a delicious dinner and
entertainment as guests of the Elimville
W.I. They entertained the Huron South
District to this lovely picnic.
Royal Fair to host
public speaking
This year, the Royal Agricultural Winter
Fair is hosting the third provincial public
speaking competition for rural youth.
The conmetition will be held on Thursday,
November 19, 1987. Preliminaries will be 1
• p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Royal Room and the
finals from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the FOOdland
Stage.
All rural youth between the ages of 17 and
24 years as of the competition date are eligi-
ble to enter. -
Each contestant must give a 5-7 Minute
prepared speech on a current issue pertain-
ing to Ontario's agriculture and food in-
dustry, as well as introduce and thank
another tontestant.
Contestants will be allowed to Use a flip -
chart, exhibit oir appropriate posters to
il-
lustrate their talk, if they so,desire, Slides,
films, videos or Overhead projectors will not
be allowed.
Prizes will be awarded.

Mary K. Ryan spent last Friday at the
home of her daughter Mary Margaret
Maloney. While there she was visited by her
daughter Teresa and husband George Simp-
son, son Pat and family and grandaughter
Carolyn Wilson.
JFs have fair booth
The Seaforth Junior Farmers held a
.meeting on August 11 at the Seaforth and
• District Community Centres. Cherryl Smith
president, opened the meeting with the
Junior Farmer Song.
The Junior Farmers reported that their
Blood Donor Clinic fur the Red Cross held
• August 6, 1987 resulted in 123 units being
donated.
The Seaforth Club will have a booth at the
Seaforth Fair September 24 and 25 and will
sell muffins and soft drinks. ,
--Dave Vanneste reported on Provincial
Summer Games held in Guelph on August 8.
The Seaforth Junior Farmers had an ex-
cellent Showing as follows'. Connie Hoggart,
• Ladies Shotput first, and Ladies High Jump
third; Nancy Denham, .Ladies Discuss se-
cond; Kathy Vanneste, Ladies 200 metre
swimming second; Dave Vanneste Men 200
metre swimming second; and Mens 100
metre County Team and Ladies 100 metre
County Team both placed second.
Junior Farmer membersthave been work-
ing in the Seaforth Club Garden in regard to
the Provincial Junior Farmer Project call-
ed "Plant a Seed for Need." Their produce
will be ready to harvest in the near future.
The Snowmobile Races on a grass track
will be held September 12:13/67. So we are ,
now preparing for this event.
Lynda Feagan was given the Junior
Farmer of the month award in regard to her
work with the Blood Donor Clinic.
McGrath's hold reunion
The McGrath Reunion was held Sunday,
August 16 at the hothe of Irma and Dan
McGrath.
Those attending were: Eleanor
(McGrath) Murray, Paul and Sean Gauss,
Joe, Nancy and. Michael Murray, Richard,
Wendy and Jessica Murray all of London,
Michael, Judi and Matthew Murray,
Hanover, Pat McGrath, Dublin, Bill, Mary
Anne, Mike, Katie, Ellen and Joey
McGrath, Acton, Jim, Sharon and Matthew
McGrath, Mark, Mary Anne, Chris and
Julie Smith,•Larry, Dianne, Andrea, Laura
and Greg and Dan McGrath all of
Egmondville.
After a social time and picture taking, a
potluck supper was enjoyed by all.
The 1988 Reunion will be held at the same
home.
