Family golf classic was a success:
Golf has long been billed as the game of a
lifetime and the game the whole family can
play. There is an annual tournament that il-
lustrates this perfectly: The, North -
American Life Family Golf Classic is con-
ducted annually •by the O.G.A. and has
become an event that golfing families`look
forward to. The divisions include competi-
tion for Fathers & Sons, Mothers &
Daughters, Fathers & Daughters, :and
Mothers. & Sons. The tourney is set up so
that on one day Fathers & Daughters are on -
the course while Mothers & Sons are. The
next day the reversal is true, giving families
the opportunity to play both days.
The format is alternate shots, with each
pair or twosome playing only one ball. This
makes for some interesting strategy .and
lots of apologies as sons and daughters put
fathers and mothers into trees, sand and
ponds ... (not that mothers & fathers don't
do the same to their offspring!)
The golf is only a part of the event. Each
year the tournament is played at a different
course and it is 'great to be. able to play
courses that are normally for members on-
ly. Since each pair only plays one ball the
groupings are sixes and eights and each
year you meet families who really enjoy, the
'port of golf. After 18 holes of good competi-

tion, laughter, and -even the odd show of
disgusted frustration, the families have
become friends who perhaps will meet
again on the golf course another time.
This yearthe tournament was held at
Wyldwood Golf Club near Milton. After a
• quick practise round we decided that in both
the Father & Son and Father & Daughter
Divisions, Dad should hit off the even.
numbered tees. The advantage on distance
was quite noticeable especially with ladies
• tees moved up quite a bit.'In spite of an im-
pressive
mpressive practise round (so what else is
new?) our rounds in competition were pret-
ty poor. My drive on the first tee barely
made it off the ground and the, "Sorry Dad"
• that followed was thel first of many
apologies. Our group was lots of fun and the
daughters were great players. One girl with
us was golfing with her father while her
mother golfed with her father making it 3
generations on the course. Cam & Dad shot
80 on Tuesday and C.A. & Dad were 89 on
Wednesday. In spite of the scores a good
time was enjoyed by all.
The North American Life Family Golf
Classic is open to anyone. The Father & Son
section is divided into divisions based on .
handicaps. Entrants under 12 years old
must have a handicap of 30 or less. You
don't have to be a fantastic pair'to enjoy this
event, we've proved that. There are many
families who would enioy this experience so
keep it in mind for !88.
Last week ladies night was cancelled due
to the holiday, but the ladies journeyed to
Ironwood on Thursday for fun, food & golf.
Gail Price shot a fine 37 to lead the way. A
good time was had by all. On men's night a
small turnout gave , us the following
winners:
Ken Janmaat - closest to Pin; Low Putts -
Frank Verbeane and Doug Elliott, Low
teams - Todd Doig & Larry Dupee; Brett
Finlayson & Frank Verberne; Glenn
Aldwindkle & Doug Elliott.

California cuties are coming to town
The' world formed comedy Softball team,
l The California Cuties have scheduled an ap-
pearance in Seaforth on Wednesday, August
26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lions Park!
,The Cuties began as a special services
entertainment for our servicemen stationed
on Guam, in the South Pacific, back in 1946,
and in turn became a career for organizer,
and comedy star, Trino Paiacios. 1986 was
their 40th year on the road, and though Trino
is now the oldest barnstarning athlete in the
world, he vows to continue performing until
called to that great "ball game in the sky."
The cuties feature only a pitcher, catcher,
first baseman, and shortstop, with Trino
handling microphone duties until called
upon to demonstrate his wild pitching com-
edy routines during the show innings. He
reached his 68th birthday on March 17 and
though the years are recorded, he still looks
and plays like a man in his thirties.
The _cuties attire themselves in wild ladies
garb, but are in truth a band of top notch
ball players from California. Ron Rupp per -
