Seaforth seniors second in . Tri -County
The District Seniors Games held June 22
and 23 went off without a hitch due to• the
tremendous efforts of thecommittee
members and volunteers,
John Patterson, chairman of the District
Games committee, said there ,was' lots of
good competition and events were well
thought out.
"The hard work of the committee, .the con-
venors, the people at registration and the
lunch people led to a successful two days,"
said Mr, Patterson.
Mayor Mf Ross was also pleased with the
Games and the participation in them by the
senior citizens,
He said the two days were special and ad-
ded it was an honor for Seaforth to host the
Games.
"With an event as, large and as successful. •
as these Games, things do not Just happen, it
is a combination of good planning and hard
work from the committee," he said,
"It takes a tremendous amount of people
to make the Games work,"
The Games consisted of fourteen events -
golf, • horseshoes, lawn . bowling, tennis,
bridge, snooker, cribbage, darts, shuf-
fleboard; erokinole,five-pin bowling, table
tennis, carpet bowling and euchre -which at-
tracted a total of 411 competitors from 28
communities,
The overall winner was Mitchell with 103
points and Seaforth placed second, not very
far behind with 90 points,- Parkhill came in
third with only'42 points: tennis for ladies .00 and over, The team of.
Seaforth was well represented in almost BertWalters, Art and Mary Finlayson, Bill
every, event with Many wins and some se- Harris and Betty Hulley, won the five -pin
Gond and third place finishes, Rod Doig won bowling event, Seaforth did not place at all
the golf event for wens handicap 0-12, Blll in shuffleboard, crokinole, mens table ten -
Harris placed third in mons handicap 13.18 nis, cribbage, euchre and contract bridge,
and Barbara Scott won the ladies 20 and Winners of each event received an
over handicap,Seaforth town pin, ,the shape of a green
Laverne lioegy and Ivan Gardner teamed triliuni on a maple leaf with Ontario's crest
up to win horseshoes for ages 55.04, In the centre and "Seaforth" written around

The Games began with the Mayor throw-

tradtional lighting of the torch. It was aban-
doned because of problems keeping it lit ih
the past, The Seaforth committee decided
horseshoes were the best alternative, The.

Riehl who won in a close two out of three set
.against a Mitchell team.
LUCKY TICKET -A draw for a solid brass lamp and groceries was held during the Trl-
County Seniors Games June 22 and 23, The lamp donated by Gary (Cub) Betties was
worth $150. Ticket sales were excellent. Betty Felker, volunteer, left, watches as Irene

WHAT'S MY SCORE -The District Seniors Games was a tremendous success with 28
communities participating and 411 competitors. Among the events played, lawnbowi-
ing proved to capture many participants, including Bill Lamport, Exeter and his team

DEAL ME ONE -Organizers of the Tri -County Games got a good deal with 411 com-
petitors making the event a success June 22 and 23. The Games hosted by Seaforth

dreary sky. Hatry Scott took advantage of
the momentarily dry sky to take time out of
his busy scheduate to play a few fond of
