So many. turned up that Jackie Racho was kept quite busy in the kitchen helping to prepare the tasty treat. All proceeds from the social went to fight Alzheimer's Disease. Mcllyvraith photo. Manor residents put on successful strawberry social Seaforth Manor residents had a busy week. On Wednesday Rev. Greg Gibson from St. Thomas Anglican Church was in charge of the service of worship. On Thursday morning Mary Finlayson was in charge of the exercises for Fun and Fitness and Current Events. In the after- noon Shirley Luther from the Salvation Ar- my conducted a service of worship and song. The special music, provided by Shirley was enjoyed by everyone. The theme of her message was "Faith". The residents were sorry to hear of the death of Father J.C. Caruana's mother in Malta. Jim Kelly visited with the residents on Thursday afternoon'. On Friday evening the residents had fun stemming the strawberries for their Strawberry Social which was held on Satur- day afternoon. Father's Day was a delightful day for all the men. A lovely chicken dinner with all the trimmings was enjoyed by everyone. PERSONALS Josie Nigh was in to see her mother Helen Morris on Monday. Tuesday Mary Hart had a visit with Madeline Slattery. Mary K. Ryan had visits from Jack Ryan, Geraldine Wilson, M,M. Maloney andGeorge and Theresa Simpson from London. They took their mother out for a drive on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. M. Dunn from Stratford was in to visit his father. Ed Dunn on' Father's Day. On Saturday Robert McClure had a plea- sant surprise visit from Doris Brishem, Ver- non B.C, Ruth Luts, Beaumont, Alta and Agnes Broadfoot Stratford. Tom Handy Jr. and twin sons Winston and Marc from Oshawa took their grandmother Mable Handy out for a drive to Bayfield on Saturday 'afternoon. Bill and Doris Bezzo from Stratford were to visit his mother Lucy on Sunday afternoon. Cassie Nicholson had a visit from her son Ross and Lillian Nicholson and enjoyed din- ner with her son Harold Nicholson and fami- ly on Sunday evening. Marjorie Maloney had her husband Harold out on Sunday, Vern Reynolds from London visited with Frank and Margaret Snell. Anne Downey and Greta Kerr had Margaret Snell out for a drive. Everyone was delighted to see Bill Scott home again and hope he continues to im- prove in his health. The residents would like to thank everyone who attended their Strawberry Social on Saturday, June. 20. It was a very enjoyable afternoon of tea drinking and eating strawberry shortcake. Alt the pro- ceeds will be going to the Alzheimer's Socie- ty. Lucy Bezzo, president of the Residents' Council poured tea for the afternoon and she is thanked very much. Maplewood residents enjoy strolls Maplewood Manor residents are finding the hot summer weather means extra plea- sant hours in the evening to take a stroll, or visit with friends outside on the patio, Pete Tremeer continues to work in the woodworking room. If anyone would like a handmade box for small articles, he is work- ing on some lovely ones. Croquet is aame everyone , can remember playing but not for.years. So it was with the folks at Maplewood on Tuesday when the croquet set was laid out on the lawn. After the initial practice shots, the rules of the game could be recalled. Gertie Taylor and Agnes Hunter played like pros. OnWednesday morning Rev. Barker held the worship service hi the upstairs lounge. Thank you to the members of the eongrega- tion who came and helped with the service. Residents always appreciate the visits from the community churches. Thursday afternoon Drusilla Leitch ted the lively fitness class, Everyone in the class looks forward to it. With the use of a variety of props from ribbons to plastic tulles the group exercies todoosen up from the head to toe. Friday, it was a potpourri of activity all day. With games of all kinds being played from checkers right through to a card game called Bang, the residents and staff shared lots of laughs and friendly jesting. On Saturday afternoon Jean Elliott, Agnes hunter, Monica McCurdy and staff member Sandi Poland went to the strawberry social held at the Seaforth Manor, The tasty treat and homey hospitali- ty made it an enjoyable outing. The residents and staff at Maplewood wish to welcome Monica McCrudy and John Preltman back after a stay in the Seaforth Community Hospital. Also we welcome Elsie Shaddick back after a brief stay in the Clinton Hospital. aueensway residents make cone heads Monday afternoon it was arts and crafts time at Queensway. Several residents got together to make a very silly craft - 'cone heads.' The craft turned out pretty good, not to mention humorous. Tuesday morning they all got together for exercises to loosen tip and visit with each other. And in the afternobn Rev. Vipperman came in to conduct the church service, which was enjoyed by a111 Wednesday afternoon the ladies from the Christian Reformed Church came by to take several for car rides. Thbse who went had a super time, and the weather was terrific! Thursday afternoon Joyce Pepper came in to help residents through Choir practice. They hadn't met for choir in a while; and this showed at the beginning. But as time progressed the residents ended sounding pretty good. It was -a very pleasant, not to mention challenging, afternoon. Thursday evening the movie of the week was shown at 7 p.m. ft was ealled "Three Grandmothers." It portrayed three elderly - women Who were from different parts of the world, and their unique and very different roles that they play due•to their cultures. Friday morning the Hensall Public Scheel Choir came over to visit one more time before the summer holidays. They gave a tremendous show with singing, piano play- ing and of course the choir itself. Residents would like to thank all the children for can- ing to Queensway, and would like to Wish than all a very safe and happy stun ner holiday. In the afternoon, several gathered outside • for the "Sharing of Stories" which is always an enjoyable activity for all those involved. There is one more announcement. Residents wet to remind everyone of their Strawberry Social on June 26 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. They are looking forward to this very special day, and hope for numerous guests. All proceeds donated during this event, will go to the Alzheimer Association to aid in the research of Alzheimers. So please, top of the week with ueensway's Strawberry Social. - MckiIlop raises $1190.50 for March of Dimes The I eS- The 1987 McKillop March of Dimes can- vass this year realized $1190.50. Convenors were Olave Little and Norma Dietz. Canvassers Were Mrs, C. De Corte, Elaine Floyd, Tussis Campben, Nita McClure, Mrs. John Ryan, Mrs. Joe Van Dooren, MrS. Herman lioste,Mrs, Gordon Pryce, Clarissa Stewart, Mrs. Harold Pryce, Helen Williamson, Margie Beuerrnann, Dorothy Wiederman, Diane Better -Man. Rita Moylan, Mrs. Mervin Shelean, Bev. Shea, Cindy Flanagan, Janneke Murray, Rosemary Balfour and Dorothy Delaney. COMPANY'S COMING Lucy Bezzo, president of the resident's council at the Seaforth Manor, poured tea for a Strawberry Social, held there. on Saturday.
