Seaforth Council approves hospital grant
Seaforth Town Council has approved a 'A letter. from CN stated the railway is
grant' of $1,100 to the Seaforth Community
Hospital for 1987, instead of the $1,000
budgeted. • •
The Town decided to up the grant after it
was advised by the Seaforth Conununity'
Hospital it had admitted 370 Seaforth pa-
tients during its last fiscal year. In the past
the Town has contributed $3 per patient.
REQUEST REPORT
B.M. Ross and Associates have been re-
quested to report on the feasibility of the
Town providing services to lots on the
westerly town limits.
John Segeren attended a recent meeting
of council's finance and general govern-
ent-committee-to request the Town eon
sider extending James Street to the
westerly town limit to service, six lots own-
ed by Dr. Charles Moyo. The •committee
advised the current town policy required
the developer to provide services. The
committee also questionned if the sanitary
sewers could be extended because of
shallow depths.
TOWN REPRESENTATION
Paul Ross has been given, authorization
to make representation to the arbitrator in
the Seaforth Police Agreement matter on
behalf of the Town of Seaforth.
The Seaforth Police Association and the
Town's negotiating committee .failed to
reach an agreement, despite going to con-
ciliation last month.
FUND APPROVED
Seaforth Town council has approved an
addition to the Seaforth and District Com-
munity Centres' reserve , fund in the
amount of $13,000,
Approval came after the community
centres committee requested permission
to add to their reserve fund in 1987 an
amount equal to the $13,000 budgeted for
the parking lot. This is to ensure sufficient
funds will be available when the project is
started.
APPROVE HIRING
• Seaforth Town Council has approved the
hiring of a SEED student, to be shared
with the BIA. •
The town will share the student with the
• BIA for a period of 10 weeks at a total cost
of $175 each.
• INSPECT SYSTEM
Town council has decided to contact a
hydro inspector for his opinion on the state
of repair of the library electrical system.
That decision was made after librarian

Councillor Garry Osborn received $300 for
one' council meeting' and five committee
meetings; Reeve William Bennett receiv-
ed $195 for one council meeting, one com-
mittee meeting and one all -day meeting;
and deputy -reeve Hazel Hildebrand and
councillors Carolanne Doig and Bill
McLaughlin each received $165 for atten-
ding one council meeting and two commit-
tee meetings.
FORM TEAM .
The Town of Seaforth has adopted a
recommendation from its Protection to
Persons and Property committee that it •
participate in the formation • of a post
shooting trauma team for Zone 6. They will'
contribute $400 to its formation and $75 an-
nually for its maintenance.
The trauma team would provide
assistance to police officers and/or their
families should they be traumatized by
some aspect of their work.
• , GRANT ALLOCATION
The Town of Seaforth has awarded a
grant of $50 to the Huron County
Plowmen's Association for operation of its
1987 program.
The group had asked for $100, but that
request was denied since it came in'after
the 1987 budget was drawn up.
PASS RESOLUTION
Seaforth Town Council has passed a
resolutionn authorizing Burns Ross and
Associates to formulate specifications for
a contract for the resurfacing of the
Highway 8 connector from the town's
easterly to westerly limits.
• That authorization comes on the heels of
a decision by the Ministry of Transporta-
tion. and Communication to provide fun-
ding for the upgrading of highways in the
province..
DIRECTION GIVEN
Direction has been given to Steve Burns,
of B.M. Ross and Associates, to write
Canadian National Railways and advise
them the Town of Seaforth does not wish to
pursue the Jarvis Street crossing.,
Mr. Burns told council's transportation
and environment committee it would cost
the town approximately $120,000 to
establiih, a Jarvis Street railway crossing.
$36,200 would be needed for construction of
a new crossing and $82,350 for warning
devices. In addition maintenance costa on
this crossing would be approximately
$6,000 per year. '
• Seaforth Town council will write a letter
to Tuckeramith Township requesting one
of its councillors be appointed to sit on the
Sewage Works Liason Committee. '
The terms of reference for the sewage
study have been set with' Ministry of the
Envirerunent officials as the project
Managers. The ministry will becoming to
a .council meeting in the near future to
discuss the project. •
Steve Burns of B.M. Ross and Associates '
recommended that since the lagoons were
located in Tuckersmith Township that a
representative from that township should
be asked to sit on the conimittee. It was
suggested it be a member of Tuckersmith
council so that with regular reporting, the,
council would be kept up to date:
' NEW LINES.
The town • of Seaforth will advise Bell
Canada it cannot make open cuts across
newly resurfaced streets when installing
new line.
_Bell Canada is of upgrading their line
from Seaforth to Clinton, commencing on
George Street East across Main Street and
down Market Street to High Street. This
route is across all neWly resurfaced
streets.
Public Works Superintendent John For-
rest said he would rather see the bore and
punch method used to install the new' line.
He said once the cut in the road is made
moisture is constantly seeping in no mat-
ter how_well the cut is repaired.
• STREET CLOSURE
Seeaforth Town Council has approved
the closure of Duke Street from 12 noon
Thursday, September 24 to 6 p.m. on Fri-
day, September 25. The closure is to ac-
comodate the fall fair.
Streetclosures were not however ap-
proved tor the Canada Day fire works
display.
After reviewing the request and 'street
closure the transportation and environ-,
ment committe'e said blocking off the re-
quested streets is not the best approach.
The committee suggested setting up "toll
booths".
NEED MEMBERS.
The Seaforth Recreation and Parks com-
mittee is looking for another member.
Members of the committee recently ac-
cepted with regret,the resignation of Bren-
da Derbyshire who will be moving from
the area.
Anyone interested in having a say on
recreation in the town, and being a
member of the recreation and parks com-
mittee can do so by contacting the town of-
fice. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday
of every month.
• CONSTRUCT ROAD
Town council has granted permission for
the construction of a temporary gravel
road in Silvercreek subdivision.
A request for the road was submitted by
. Rodger Adams and received no opposition
from either the Silvercreek Subdivision
Ltd., or .the town's Public Work's depart-
ment. The road will permit Mr. Adams ac-
cess to his garage.
The road, which is to be constructed to
Ministry of Transportation and Com-
munication gravel standards will be main-
tained by the town of Seaforth. The road is
long enough to permit adequate snow
ploughing.

Seaforth
Police find body
Ontario Provincial Police, Saturday.
recovered the body of the second of two
fishermen who went missing on Lake
Huron on April 25.
Goderich 'OPP Corporal Chuck Vessey
said the body of William Daters, 28, of Ex-
eter, was spotted at 9 a.m. on June 13,
about one kilometre off shore by
fishermen, who informed police. The body
was found about 1.5 kilometres north of
Goderich.
Daters and Doug McKay, 32, of Kippen,
were last seen when the set out on a fishing
trip in a 12 -foot aluminum boot.
McKay's body was found washed ap on
the beach May 23 by a Port Albert area
cottager, 16 kilometres north of Goderich.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death td
be drowning.
On April 28, searchers found the men's
boat floating offshore between 8ayfield
and, Grand Bend. Life jackets, and a
baseball cap belonging to the men were
also found in this area.
No inquest will be held into the death of
Daters, a truck driver for the Hensall
District Co-operative.
An extensive search, involving Canadian
Forces search and rescue aircraft; the
Canadian Coast Guard, Goderich Police
and civilian shore searchers, as well as the
OPP marine and helicopter units failed to
locate the two men. The air and water
searches were halted,' with the men
presumed dead, two days after the boat
was foiind, while police continued with the
land search.

but not least all the stage hands who worked
their butts off all day and night. Without
everyone's help and time there would never
have been a show.
Matt Stody, who is Tom Cochrane's
road riianager told me after the show that
for such a small town he has never seen such
an organized and well tun concert
once again, thanks to all those who helped.
