SDHS Drama Club performs well
• ' BY NELLIE BLAKE
Low attendance did not dampen .the
spirits bf the Seaforth District High School
drama club, which .presented a hilarious
play called, "Let's Murder Marsha" Thurs-
day and Friday nights at the high school:
The play, written by Monk Ferris and
pUbfished by Samuel French Publishing,
was chosen by the club because the number
of actors and actresses matched the number
in the drama club and because they. were
impressed by the twisting plot.
Drama club leader Janice Rose -said
'.although attendance was less thaex-
pected, the play was successful from the
club's point of view. She expected about 50
people for each night's perforinance but on-
ly 30 actually showed.
' If you weren't among the 60 people who at-
tended the play, you missed a story that was
full of surprises from the very beginning. As
the plot goes, Marsha's loving • husband;
Tobias Gilmore, in conjunction with Persis
Devore, a snobby interior designer, is
preparing a very special surprise present
for his wife's birthday. Marsha misinter-
prets his good intentions as a murder plot.
Marsha then plots with her neighbor,
Virgil, to beat Tobias and Persis, to the
punch. When Marsha's mother shows up the
plot is further complicated leading to the
hilarious outcome.
Actress Cheryl Cooper, who played Bian-
ca, a saucy maid who likes to -drink, said the
most difficult part was learning how to
become the character. She accomplished
this by trying to figure out what her
character was like and how she behaved.
Cheryl said she kept going over her lines one
month priorto opening night, remembering
yrhemple cues were and trying not to get
nervous.
A Grade ILitudent at SDHS, Cheryl said
she is considering a career in acting, but
will wait ilntiI she graduates from high
school before seriously "acting on the idea".
The.lead of the play, Toni Bailey as Tobias
Gilmore, became involved in the play when
Mice Rage asked him to replace the former

lead actor, who decided.,t withdraw. Mr.
Bailey was imported from the Blyth Young
Compnay where he, has been working for
seven years,
Mr. Bailey said he felt almost like a
veteran among the high school actors. but
admitted for a small school they did well to
pull off such a difficult play. He added to be
even more successful, the drama club needs
to learn some basics bf acting, likeiseene
structure, before going on to Other plays.
A second year University of Alberta stu-
dent, Mr. Bailey, is working towards a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He added
even with his experience It was tough to
learn his part in only a few days.
