INTENDED FOR LAST WEEK The first meeting of the short course, "Short Order Meals" was held' in the township hall May 7 with 15 ladies present, Kay Samle introduced the course and she and she and Lillian Douglas discussed, effi- ciency in the .kitchen, meal, planning, fast food with style, seasonings, and leftovers. . Mrs, Douglas had prepared a complete 0 menu of, chicken a la Dijonnaise, orzo, but- tered peas .and peach' cobbler, which everyone sampled and enjoyed at the close, of the meeting. The final meeting is planned for Tuesday, May 26, with everyone to bring a dish prepared from the, manual for all to sample and enjoy. • SURPRISE VISIT On May 6 Orpha Norris and Bob and Ber- nice Norris,' were ourprised by a short visit from Mrs. Norris' daughter Margaret Brait, St. Johns, Newfoundland. Alvin and Margaret Cole, Hensall visited on Saturday evening with John and Roberta Templeman and family. GUESTS FOR. Cranbrook man catches, fingers Cranbrook Correspondent MRS. MAC ENGEL 887-6645 SPECIAL MEETING Women's .Institute members from Cran- brook who attended the District annual at Fordwich were 'Mrs. Leslie Knight, Mrs. Donald Perrie, Mrs. W. Strickler, and Mrs. John Vanass. Mrs. Wray Gowing,. Connie and Randy were weekendvisitors with their aunt and uncle Jack and Mrs. Conley. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Don Cotton is home again after having surgery .in University Hospital, London, Dean Bentley had the misfortune to get his fingers caught in the chain of the lawn mower on Thursday. He was taken to Listowel Hospital, where he' remained overnight. MONTHLY MEETING The Women's Missionary Society of Knox Presbyterian Church, Cranbrook, held it's regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Wilfred Strickler. Mrs. Jack Knight,, vice-pres. opened the meeting with a mo- ment of silence in memory of Mrs. Clare Veitch, the late president. ' Mrs. Stuart Stenson gave several appropriate readings on the theme, "Mother'. The Scripture reading' was in unison with the.' meditation by Mrs. Stevenson. Mrs. Stewart Steiss was in charge of the topic and told of the women and mothers of several Asian countries, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladash, and Sri Lanka. The conditions under which these women have to live makes us realize how fortunate we are in our country. An invitation was read from Harrington to their 110th anniversary June 10. Eight members answered the roll call with a verse on "Mother." Mrs. Stevenson reported on the Spring Ex- ecutive meeting in Mitchell on May 12. Mrs. Jack Knight was appointed president for the remainder of 1987 and Mrs. Stevenson' will be vice-president. Two members gave birth- day money and 'cards and visits were recorded. All joined'in the Lord's Prayer: A brief.Ladies Aid meeting was conducted by Mrs. Stewart Steiss. Ways to make money were diseussed and a decision was left over for later. }qrs. John Vanass was appointed treasurer. Lunch was served by Mrs, Hart and Mrs. Strickler, FORESTERS MEET The May meeting of the Cranbrook Foresters 100 was held in the Community Centre. All members of the Executive were present except the conductor, Bro. Ross Mitchell, totalling fifteen. Secretary Sis Patsy Dickinson, recording secretary, will be living in Waterloo to fur- ther her education. She will be missed and the members hope she comes back to join them. Sis Brenda Perrie accepted the secretary duties. District Council meeting is at Cranbrook, June 16. .It. wasdecided to continue. the. old +time.. dances, the"fir-st to be Friday, 'October '23'in Cranbrook Comunity Centre. The treasurer gave a good report and lunch was served by Sisters Nancy Jean Craig and Mary Ellen Jacklin. The June meeting is to be the fami- ly barbecue and a good turn out is hoped for.
