Champion Road Machinery Limited of
Goderich will receive'• a repayable federal
contribution of .$4,683,000 to manufacture a
new line of road graders. •
• The announcement was made at a news
conference on .behalf of Michel .Cote,
Minister. of Regional Industrial Expansion,
by Murray Cardiff, Member of Parliament
for Huron -Bruce. Mr.',Cardiff said the funds
will be used towards estimated total costs of
$9,996,000 for the project, which is expected
to create 150 new jobs within five years.
Champion plans to acquire advanced pro-
duction equipment and redesign its grader
lines for military markets.
"This is an important project as it will
enable Champion to compete worldwide for
military orders, which represent 15 to 20 per
cent of grader markets," Mr. Cardiff said.
"It should result in an additional $70 million 1
in export sales and $4.1 million in domestic
sales over the next three years."
' The contribution was provided under the

According to Blake .Evans, Chairman of
the newly organized Wingham committee of
Ducks Unlimited Canada, folks . •froth
Wingham -and surrounding areas interested
in participating in a.practical conservation
program will be given an opportunity to do
so October 2, 1987.
As a local representative for the interna-
tional waterfowl conservation organization
Mr. Evans said, "When it comes to conser-
vation, there are a lot of good people out
there with good intentions who would really
like to make a positive difference in how `
wildlife is perpetuated on this continent, but
just don't know how to go about it."
Mr. Evans went on to say he volunteered •
to help Ducks Unlimited because of the
organization's impressive track record.
Since 1938, he said this private, non-profit
organization has ' constructed more than
2,100 wetland projects throughout Canada.
As a result, D.U. has reserved over three
million habitat acres and created more than ,
13,000 miles of crucial nesting shoreline for
waterfowl.
Concluding his remarks about the impor-
tance of DU's conservation effort Mr. Evans
stated, "Our committee will soon be calling
on conservation -minded individuals within
the community to help support our DU fund-
raising banquet scheduled for. October 2,
1987 at the Brussels Morris and Grey Com-
munity Centre. We're going to have a lot of
good food, good prizes and good fun for
everyone, and those who attend can. rest
assured the dollars we raise are going to a
very good cause". Blake said he would be
happy to talk to anyone -interested in DU's
grassroots conservation program and can
be reached at 357-1920.
