gate Women's Games were initiated in 1978
to redress•inequities that existed for women
in the field of sports. • .
Recognizing that women had not been
given the same opportunities as men to
• develop their .athletic skills, the Colgate
Women's Games were designed as a means
by which Colgate-Palmolive would be able
to thank women consumers for Supporting
their products. • •
On June 20 and 2Tthe Colgate Women's
Gaines will -celebrate their 10th anniversary
at Etobicoke's Centennial Stadium in Toron-
to. All females 10 years of age or older as of
December 31, 1.987 (that. is. born in -1977 or
earlier) are eligible to compete in the two
day track and field extravaganza.
All competitors are divided into one of
four age groupings. The 12 and 13 year olds
and the 14 and 15 year olds compete on
Saturday, June 20 and the 10 and 11. year
olds and those 16 years of age and older will
compete on Sunday, Jutie.21..
The•meet is unique in that there is no ad
mission fee for either the, entrants or the
spectators as Colgate-Palmolive continues
to.upderwrite the entire cost of the event.
Each female that competes in the Colgate
Women's. Games will be the recipient of'a
free T-shirt and for those fortunate -enough
to finishin the top three of their particular
event, Colgate-Palmolive offers Grants -In -
Aid of Education in varying amounts depen-
ding on. the athlete's. age category and.
overall placing.
