Square • from page 2 ' "lane" (and I use the term loosely) you should, upon spotting a motorist attemp- ting to back out of an angle parking spot: a) move over and allow him to back out b) slow down and allow him to back out c) hold your course and test his nerves d) clip off his back bumper and attempt to file a claim under the "confprehensive" section of your insurance policy. 6. When attempting entry onto The Square you should a) wait until a.suitahle break in traffic arises b) proceed im- mediately into the right hand lane on the asumption that surely someone will slow , down to'let you in c) drive on backwards and if someone hits you, tell the rop you were there all the time and this clown just rear -,. you. 7. When attempting to exit from the Square you should: a) close your eyes and crank the wheel hard to the right b) close your eyes and take your hand off the steer- ing wheel altogether c) simply maintain course until early evening, when most , drivers will break for. supper. This test would of course be followed up by a road test,. with a qualified instructer, which would cover the intricacies: of the bizzare form of reverse parallel parking required on the inside of The Square, as well as how to reach The Square from The Five Points, without going completely mad. Perhaps it would be simpler just to post a diselaimer under the street signs mark- ing entrance to The Square. Something like "Abandon Hope, All Ye Who Enter Here!" might just cover it. Hour • froiu page 2 still 5, but really 4, if you think of it as being yesterday. Yes, it's confusing. Like everything that's confusing, the government had a hand in it. - People like me, farm animals, radio and • television stations and factories all have to adjust to a "new"time schedule There's Only One reason for it, to give vacationers and city slickers an extra hour of daylight at night, Personally, I like the idea of having that antra hour to work outside at night, .If there's one thing government should look at, it's leaving clocks alone and keep Daylight Saving Time year round. Tt probably won't work if somebody con- vmces` politicians it isn't healthy. It will be like the boors in South Africa a' few years ago when the idea of changing tittle was Sug- gested The farmers argued, successfully; that an extra hour" •of sun would burn crops! u I ,Maybe we can argue that never changing the time back to the fall' will mean everyone will;be in a better, mood Arid rf we're in a good mood, we like' politicians: And if we like pohtieians, we might vote for thein. •ti Right? . ' If none of this makes: sense, don't worry,' Springing ahead and falling back„ is pro- bably the most controversial, and confus= ing, issue we deal With each year. I guess' I'll have by wait till to get rested' up` Until then, forgive inc if I snarl the odd time it's lack of sleep and it's tie government's fault • BACHERT MEATS Call us for your custom a:aughterlr.g needs SLAUGHTER DAY TUESDAY, !• 'For your freezer, atdes of Beef.
