Maplewood residents bec�rne 'Irisl
The folks at Maplewood Manor enjoyed the
fun of St. Patrick's Day at the beginning of
last week and welcomed the first day of
spring at the end of the week.
On Monday, Pete Tremeer went bowling at
Starlight bowling lanes. The Seaforth Manor
group that also goes bowling on Mondays
kindly drive Pete to and fromthe bowling
lanes. '
Tuesday was St. Patrick's Day and the
residents and staff at Maplewood became
"Irish for the day. To help get that special
feeling -Marion Rose, Allergy Ryan and
Sandra Claessens sang some of the old
favorite tunes from Ireland:' Sherry-Mceall
brought 15 of her students in to perform as
well. They stepdanced as lively as lepre-
chauns to the toe -tapping music. Everyone
enjoyed the entertainment. A lunch was
served to the , children which included
green -colored apple juice.
In keeping with St. Patrick's Day color
dinner for the residents and entertainers.
included a variety of greens - right down to
the pistachio pudding.
Tuesday afternoon euchre was held.
Manor reside
Dorothy and Bilf Pappfe joined in the games.
Mary Chapple and Anne Downey were the
volunteers who helped. Mary Chapple won
the door prize which was appropriately a
shamrock plant. Thank you to Bonnie Bedard
who donated large.numberedplaying cards
for those who have difficulty with their
eyesight.
On Wednesday morning Rev. Van Slyke
conducted the worship service. He was
accompanied by members of his congrega-
tion, Ruth Cluff, Yvonne Van Slyke and
Kathleen Cuthill -provided assistance along
with taped musical accompaniment. Rev.
Van -Slyke visited with residents after the
service and everyone greatly appreciated
that. .
Wednesday night Lion's.. T.V. bingo was
played by the residentsand volunteers.
Tgere was a tie between John Pullman and
Agnes Hunter for having a card closest to a
bingo. Each received prizes. Volunteers were
• brought in for bingo by Junior Farmer Lynda
Feagan. The voluntP^r helpers were Marj
Maloney and Anne Downey. -
Friday afternoon Gail Hills and her,
vacationing daughters were in charge .of
movies The Charlie Chaplin movie was a hit.
Friday;; officially the first day of spring,
was welcomed at Maplewood. Daffodils and
tulips, a gift from Frances Breen, were on.
everyone's dining table 'to celebrate the day.

Ethel Sallow's visitors• were Mr. and Mrs.
Don Talbot, Irene. Good, Michelle Parks,
Mrs. Dickey and Arlette,
Anne Henderson's visitors were Tom.
Henderson, Stephen Henderson and Pat
Meidinger.
Gerrie Taylor's visitors were Dorothea,
Ron and Kevin Williamson.

Papple and Mae's family. ••
Elva. and John Pullman's visitors were
their family.
• Jean and•Ed.John's visitors were Mrs. G.

Seaferth Manor residents went bowling
Monday afternoon at Starlight Lanes. The
winner was Pat Ryan. .•
On Tuesday morning Margaret Ryan of St.
Columben played many good old Irish tunes
on piano in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. In
the afternoon the ladies held their -baking
class and made cookies. •
' Tuesday evening Gladys Van Egmond and
band played for a St. Patrick's Day party
complete with dancing and singing.
Wednesday morning exercises for fun and .
fitness were held. In the afternoon Rev, Van
Slyke held a worship service. Kathleen
Cuthill played piano and Mrs, Van Slyke
helped residents with singing. -
Thursday morning - there were more
exercises and current events and in the
afternoon the men played euchre and ladies
cut foam, them joined in a sing along music
appreciation..
•
Friday afternoon bingowas played and
winners were; straight line, Madge Remes,
Lawrence Young, 'Bob McClure, Elmer
Bakscy; 4 corners, Lucy Bezzo, Dennis
Arney; full house, Irene Omand, Ila Gardner,
Marguerite Shill. • -

grandson Jim Nigh of Windsor, Bill and
Janice Morris and Tom Nigh and • great

Cassie Nicholson enjoyed an outing.shop-
ping' and 'lunch with daughter Barb Alex-

Gladys Ruston' was out for the -day with
husband Fergus.
Ethel Dennis and Eva McCartney visited
Frank-Smale, also his wife Margaret.
Legion to.. initiate new members
At the Legion general meeting four new
names were passed .for membership. They
will be initiated at a later date.
On Saturday night the Darts League had
their potluck supper and final darts games of
the season. Those receiving the top awards
were Ann Laycox, Charlie Perkins, Barbara
Scott, Roger Laycox, ,Jackie Melanson and
Jack Muir, All the other members- who had
high scores also received a glass with the
darts crest on it A very enjoyable evening
was spent. Thanks go to Ann and Roger.
Laycox for running the league this winter
from all those, participating.
This•Saturday there will. be a lot of activity
around the Branch with the annual invitation-
al bowling tournament being held. Good luck
to all teams entered:

says the Service Officer will be at the Branch
• on 'Tuesday, March 31. Anyone wishing an

This Sunday, March 29 the Zone Conven-
tion will be held. Anyone wishing to attend
should. contact President Jim Watson.
There are still some seats left, for the
Legion Bus trip on April 4. Price is $3 per
person. Anyone planning on going should
sign on the list on the bulletin board.
