The seniors won their.irst game in the WOSSA playoffs against Glencoe, but were defeated 58-46 by Parkhill. The Golden Bears have captured the WOSSA "A" title five of the past six yea's. There Were hopes it would happen again, but they did not last long. Even the return of centre Ron Vercruysseh, from the Canada Games was not enough. Vercruyssen, a 6 foot 10 inch Grade 13 student had just returned from Sidney, Nova Scotia where the Ontario team finished fourth. The gold medal went to the host team, while Quebec picked up the silver, and British Columbia earned the bronze. The Ontario team was expected to do well, and it May have been that pressure that weakened the team. Despite his team's rather poor showing, Vercruyssen says it was definitely a reward- ing experience. As for relationships with rival athletes, he says "at the beginning all the athletes sized each other up,.but after a while we all got along." Vercruyssen also stated all athletes were treated very well by everyone involved. The provincial government gave all Ontar- io athletes track suits, gym bags, and other • items. Brooks, a major athletics company also contributed to the team, including free shoes for all basketball players. For Vercruyssen the WOSSA tournament marked the end of a successful high school basketball career.
