TheJanuary meeting of the Hibbert'United
Church Women took place in the Family life
('entre, beginning with a potluck lunch.
Ada Pethick was chairperson for . the
meeting.
For the program, most of the ladies present
contributed with readings and musical
numbers. These were enjoyed by all. The
treasurer's annual report was read, as well as
the card secretary's•report for the year just
ended.
Pennies which have been collected
throughout 1986 will be given to the "Seeds
far Zaire" project.

persons receiving flowers from the United

The ladies weft reminded of the Huron -
Perth Presbyterial being held in Mitchell
United Church later this month and also of
the "First National Gathering" for Women of
the United Church in July at the University of.
Waterloo. -
A list will be drawn up of people
responsible for flowers in the church
sanctuary each week for 1987.
Deborah Hoekstra closed the meeting with
prayeraftcrwhich some of the ladies resumed
quilling.

took place at the Hibbert United Church, to
celebrate the 25th'Anniversary of the United
Church Women.

FIRST EUCHRE'
The Knights of Columbus held their first
euchre game for the season Friday evening in
the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. •
Columban.
Twelve tables were in play and the winners
were: ladies high, Mary Coyne; low, Mamie
Delaney; rnen's high, Jerome Murray; low,
Margaret Rowland ,(Marg played as a man);
and for the most lone hands, Gerry O'Reilly.
The next game will be Friday; January 23.
at 8 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus. Hall in -
St. Columban. Everyone is welcome.
Leon and Mary Maloney were in charge of
the euchre game in the . absence of Jerry
service held
. tors and supporters for world mission. The
purpose of the United Church Women
became "to unite women of the congregation
for the: total mission' of the church, and to
.provide a medium through which they could
express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus
Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship
and service."
The congregation was welcomed by Doris
Jeffery and Ella Vivian. Deborah Hoekstra,
pastor of the church, began the service with
the CaII to Worship. She called on Gwen
Harburn, Clerk of Session,. and Lorne Fell,
Chairman of the Stewards, who both brought
messages of congratulations and, thanks to
the United Church Women. Florence Mc-
Phail led the responsive reading and also
' gave the Scripture reading.
Miss Hoekstra told the children's story and
special music was provided by the ladies
choir with Mary F. Dow accompanying on the
organ.
• The message "Called' to Respend", the'
anniversary theme, was given by Margaret
Kemp,
Offering was received by Patti Taylor and
Marjorie Johns The' responsive Prayer of
Intercession was led by Helen Fell.
A candle lighting •ceremony took place,
with three candles representing the past, the
present, and the future. These candles were
lit by Marjorie Drake, lila Barker and Barbara
Pulln an. The commissioning and Benedic-
tion were pronounced by Miss Hoekstra.
PEOPLE
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Simpson, London
visited on Saturday with Mrs: Lloyd Miller.
At time of writing Frank Miller is a patient
in St. Joseph's Hospital. London. We wish
.him a good recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Ward, Jennifer and
Michael of Staffa returned home after
spending a few weeks in -Florida.
