Wingham's
—All town and tcwnship councils will
hold there inaugural mcetirg cu the
s econd Monday of January.
— Zhe Yong Ladies' Fortnightly Club
will bold the first meeting of the new
year at the hcme of Miss H. Bali, on
Tuesday evening, January third, at
eight o'clock sharp.
—Wingham schcol will re -open on
Tuesday next with two new teachers,
Mr. Manning, who takes Mise McLean's
place and Miss Sprung, who takes Miss
Cornyn's place until the mid -summer
holidays.
—The Curling Club has had a tele-
phone placed in the rink for the conveni-
ence of the members of the club. Mem-
bers eau now enjoy the game and have
direct communication with their place
of business.
—The farm in Turnberry, owned by
the late John Nichol, sr. offered by sale
by public auction at the National hotel
on Saturday last was purchased by Mr.
John Nichol who has been living on the
farm for many years.
—Mr. D. Stewart has sold his house
and lot on Patrick street to Wm. Well -
wood, of West Wawanosh, Mr. Stewart
expects to move to California about the
let of February and Mr. Wellwood will
then move his faintly to town.
The next sessions of High Court for
this county will be held at Goderich as
follows: The jury sitting starting on
Tuesday, March 14th, before Justice
Boyd, and the non -jury sittings on June
20th, before Chief justice Meredith.
—The three 'Wingham furniture fac-
tories—Bell's, Union and chair factary—
are closed down until the 9th of January.
New floors are being Iaid in the machine
shop at Bell's factory and some of the
machinery in the chair factory is being
moved down stairs.
—The first game of northern league
hockey will be played in the Wingham
Rink on Friday evening of this w' ek.
Lueknow club will be the visitors. All
lovers of the game should attend. The
Wingham boys will put up a very fast
game. Game called at 8.15 o'clock.
—Miss Belle Pearson, formerly teacher
at Glenannan, has been engaged as
teacher of the school in Banff, N.W.T,,
at a salary of $750. Miss Pearson is re-
siding with her brother Robt,, who is a
missionary there, and is to be congratu-
Iated on securing such an eccellent situ-
ation.

Miss Bertha McRague leaves this week
to attend Coo's Academy in London,
where she vial take up shorthand, type-
writing and bookkeeping.
Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Maxwell, of the
Biuevale road were at Atwood yester-
day . attending the marriage of Mrs,
Maxwell's brother to a young lady of
that village.
Mrs. Kruse, of Wingham, formerly
Miss Sclater' was home to attend the
church opening services and assist the
choir of which she used to be a member.

Miss McLean, who has been a member
of the Wingham school teaching staff
for two years, left on Friday for her
home near Barrie. Miss McLean is a
good teacher and will be much missed
by the other members of the staff. Her
place will be taken by Mr. Manning, of
Clinton.
Miss Mary Cornyn left on Tuesday
morning for Mexico, where she will
spend the next eight months, enjoying
the balmy breezes of that southern
country. Miss Cornyn has been granted
six months leave of absence by the
School Board. Miss Tena Sprung, of
Hullett will take Miss Cornyn'a place
on the teaching staff until the mid-
summer holidays.
