fact that Christmas day 'falls on a Sunday
this year hiset people inquiring whether
the holiday commemorative of the. great-
- est christian 'feast shall be kept on Satur-
. day, 2-Ith, or Monday, 26th. It is gene-

less it is so proclaimed by the Governor;
it cannot, of course, be° kept by banks or
public institutions. The most popular
day would undoubtedly be. Monday,
and that is the day which was. obServed
when Christmas last fell on Sunday.. It
is usual in such cases, and it is expected
that, a Departmental order will be made
to make the following Monday a holiday. ,
Siuee t
he .above was in typo the Lieut. -
Governor has proclaimed Monday, 26th
inst., and Monday, 2nd Jan., as the, bpi
