An adjourned _Meeting of the Council was
held on Monday evening ; meinners.all pre-
sent except the Mayor.

A communication was read from the Secre-
tary of the Fire Company, stating that the
Company had duly reconsidered the appoint-
ment of a Fire Engineer, and on a, fresh
ballot being taken. Mr. It. II. Call was found
to have had the most votes cast in his favor.
A deputation from the Fire Company ad-
dressed the Council in reference to the ap-
pointment.
Moved by Conn. Sheppard, sec. by Conn.
Twitchell, that the appointment of a Fire
Eogineer be referred back- to the Fire COM -
pug, with inetructions to call a special
meeting of the eompany, and advertise for a
Fire Engineer, independent of the last re.
commendation, and report at next meeting of
Council, as the Council cannot See their. way
clear to sanction' his appointment, owing to
ill health.—Carried; .

act as teachers. Both German and English
