OUTRAGEOUS CUTTING( Off
.9.1IALIE TREES.
To the Editor of the Clinton New Era.
SU,—While our citizens were enjoying
themselves on our tivia holiday, a band of
vandals entered our town, under the name
of men, repairing and inspecting the Do-
minion line telegraph wires, cutting and
disfiguring our ornamental street trees,
Would the vandals dare have done the
same thing in the city of Toronto The
trees were planted many years before the.
Dominion line was thought of. Every
place is encouraging the citizens to plant
trees; would any sane person think that
the men of the telegraph companies have
power to cut out the linthe from the heart
of the trees, eighteen foot long, under the
idea of clearing the wires,,when six inches
would deit, to clear one or two wires, be-
sides leaving the brush in thietreee and
strewn over the streets. The Montreal
• line mon .lest yefer were careful -not $- cut
more than' sufficient to elearlhe Wiree, and
they have double the number of wires the
other lino has.. ,Will our authorities allow
the outrage to pass by and net prosecute
the , company and protect the citizens of
this town from such vandalism, Let any
citizen, who has any interest in trees, take

were heard to say "-they would cut stiff:
