Linder date of the 7th inst., Mr. Thes,Ilag.

neya, Manitoba, as follows :—
I have been waiting to me the seeding done
before writing you a few particulars. Your
readers, no doubt, will be aurprised to hear
fronn me, as the report has been that it was
so cold we were all froze up; well, we are all
alive, thawed out and at work. With regard
to the cold,' I can say that I was not Moon.
Venienced with it but once, and taking into
consideration that I never wore more than
one pair of socks at once and did not get any
partt of my feet froze, I think there is no room
_or eomplaint ; I also hada aow that had nine -
pigs on the 21st of doebruary, raising eight
out of the hitter; the great difficulty with us
here was in not being prepared for the winter,
and not tieing precantion when on the road.
It wasvery, very cold here last winter; at
times, 'but by being careful we could do ell
we had to do without any danger of being
froze. it is altogether.different hete in win-
ter to Ontario; it being cold and. dry, no damp
snow to stick to you and molt; we could go
to the bush and work aroundamong the snow
and come home as dry as in summer, It has
been the coldest winter here that has been

spoken to ; if that is so, with ue finding but
how to Preprint,' for winter, I think we will be
able to live nearly as comfortable as in On-
tario, With regard to the cultivation of' the
soil, a' team will cultivate about twice as
ineoh_ite_inSintario,_ it heingeire-mneh-easier
done. The growing crop promises a largo
yield from present appearances, a large breadth
having been sown. Our future prospects get
brighter every day, Potatoes have beau
scarce for aced, on account of the river Pena-
bina being ee high it was not safe td emirs
with a team, but now the water is going down
they are being got acmes every day and ex-
pect to be Miele plant all we want; produce
and seed have been dear here; wheat has
been sold for $1.50 per bushel; oats, $1.25 ;
potatoes, $1.25, but this is not the general
price. The regular price of wheat is $1; mite,
60 to' 75 cents; potatoeS, 55 eentseflour, $3.50
to $4.50, according to place of perchase ; pork
is 13 cents per poupd for mess and 15 cents
for bacon; butter is 25 mats and scarce at
that. Seeding being done we all expect to
turn our attention to breeking up, of whiela
a large area; is being done, it being out inten-
