On Monday evening the Council held a
special sitting for the purpose of definitely
deciding upon the exact apot upen thigh
to place the new town "hall. After a
lengthy sitting the vete was taken, and it
was decided to place it according to the
following diagram, which we euppose is
not quite exact, not being made to any
scale; but near.enough to give an idea of
• its position. Exception has already been
•-taken by good many on the street, to
ihe choice, and there is no doubt but what
efforts will be made to make a change. As
,every ratepayer is interested it is their

Reference to the. Council report will
show that some wanted it set further' back
from the street, Imt the naajoritylavored
'its-lront being on the street, and near
—its -intended position, Several doubtless
-being-influenced bythe petiin previous'
ly preaented to the Council, which tusked
for its location near the centreof the lot.
The irregular shape of the lot is one cause
of the difficulty experienced in locating it,
many -of the ratepayers supposing it is a
square let; if this was the case it would
be a comparatively easy Metter to suit all

DISCUSSION ON THE PLAN.
A plan of the proposed market building,
prepared in accordance with previous re-
solution of council, was received, and on
motion of Oonn. Maley, see. by Coun.
Stevenson, laid on the table for dismission.
Chidley said the plan inet with his
views far as it went, but if the building
was to be used ooly fort miinipipal pur.,
poses, he would favor setting It back on
the lot, as he thought it would look very
unsightly to place 'the front square with
Albert street, lie would leave the low
tion of the building until a filture meeting,
and suggested the propriety of placing the
plans and a description of the lot, showing
its peculiar shape, where ratepayers could
see it, ;ma express their views thereon.
Mr, Corbett said the plait had been• dis-
cussed belote and adopted. They had al-
ready expended •alarge airieunt of time
and Aber oi,er the matter, and they should
now come to some decision. He had no
objections to consult the ratepayers, but
did not believe anything would result
therefrom. A large number of ratepayers
had signed. a petition asking for the build-
ing to be plaeed in the centre of the lot,
and he was in favor of locating it at once.
• Mr. Turnbull said the council was coin-
initted to the plans, and the loeation ef
the building was what should be attended
to,
The following motion was then carried:
' litfored by Coun. Corbett, sec. by Coun.
Doan, that the plane now before the,coun-
oil be adopted, subject to such internal
changes as may arise after the ideation of
the building. • •
