structive. The reverend gentleman spoke
of his arrival In Horne, and their gave a run-
ning description -of the various places of in-
terest, dividing his subject into two parts—
Ancient and Modern Rome de and:: by the

the most noted buildings or what remained
of them, and referring tO the superstitious
practices in vodue. The delivery of' the

pn Monday evening last the members of the Clinton
Cricket Club, with several of their friends, sat down to
-an-oyster supper atthe'Corenvertialliotel,-MiAlie
sion of the rendering up of business for the past season.
Mr. Renton, the President, occupied the chair. Justice
being done- to the good' things' on the table, the Secre-
tary read the batting and bowling analysis for the Year,
.7, Harland being ahead in batting. and J. Howson in
bowling. The President, with .a few appropriate re-
marks, then presented Mr. Harland with the bat, which
had been offered to- any member making the highest
average for the year. Mr. Harland said he felthe had
• not done enough to warrant such a. present, but thank-,
ed them very heartily for it, mid trated that next sea-
son he would show a better record. The health of the
President, Vice -President, Secretary and Managing Coin-
mittee, were then drank afidduly responded to. *The
• health.of !‘ the ladies" wa.s then proposed, coupled with
-the 115nies of S.-Dolin, C. Locke, -1Y: liffieirecatid
-Taggart. Mr. Dein said that he *Mist excused;Ishe
had left borne in a hurry, and forgot his speech, but
would leave it to the 'Other gentlemen to reply for him,

familiar, Mr. James McAndrew took up the

trated his method. of drilling ,the pupils in
pauses, emphasis, pitch, 'tone, de. After a
pleasing recitation 'from Mr. d. ES Johnsen,
the fneetieg adjourned -to meet on the third,
