The yield of grain in the Pembina
Mountain district is excellent. .On the
mountain wheat is said to average forty-
three bushels .per acre, and eats 'sev eni v.
It now requires two wagons to con-
vey the nightly mail to. the S. Boniface
railway station, such is the immense in-
crease of business in the'Winnipeg Post
Office.
0n'17uesday horningfive car -loads of
passengers left Ottawa for Manitoba
and Dakota, where they intend settling.
At Brockville three more car -loads were
added, making about 170 persons in all.

" ' Information from 271 pointsan I11i-
noir, Missouri, -Indiana,'Kansas, .Ohio,
Iowa and Nebraska shows that the ]log
crop in the Western States will probably
be a little less in point of -numbers, •but;•
owing to the very fine corn crop of last
year and this, the indications favor in-
creased weights. The corn crop, on the
other band, is much better than last.
year, and is-row.pretty generally beyond
damage by frosts.

man of Lexington, Ky., died the other
day, and after the funeral the executor.
ransacked her house and found $11,000
in gold and. silver liidde i away in old
bones and trunks. 'Yet the stingy old
woman paid the colored nurse who wait-
ed on' her in her last days but $G a.
month and made her board herself, and.
left all her hoard to rich' relatives..
