Bert Fisher, a young man, who was

. ling with Fisher, was •also taken to
leadquaters on a charge of vagrancy,
but was released by the police after'

The Weman'a Institute trier on
Thursday afternoon last but the ' el-
eceion of officers did not take place.
A meeting will be held tomorrow af-
ternoon for that purpooe. The secre-
tary read her annual report, showing
the Institute to be in a good and
sound state financially and that a
number of worthy causes had re-
ceived support during the year. A
fine paper was read by Mrs. Salkeld
-entitled, "Do Your Best and Leave
the Reel." It was full of good
e thouehts and was much enjoyed. The
president and Mrs. McArthur served 5
-o'clock tea at the conclusion of the
factory. It is to be.a fire ,proof
building, and as there are a, large
number of men employed. on it it will
probably be completed very soon.
Capt. Hayden received word the
other day from the Provincial Sec-
retary of the Boy Scouts'. that this
district, Hunon, Perth, Bruce and
Grey, is entitled ti. have cne repres-
eneative at the rally of Boy Scout to
be held in England early in July in
connection with the coronation.
Mrs. (Rev.) Joseph Elliot leaves, in
June for Europe, sailing from New
York.
Rev. Me. Hamilton has been quite
ill for some time but we are glad to
learn that he is improving very sat-
isfactorily.
Malcolm' McDonald shipped ca the
steamer Wexford this season. The
steamer called last week hero and
Malcolm's friends, were glad to see
him, looking so well. It is hoped
that the summer on the lakes will ful-
ly restore his health.
Mrs. Malcolm McDonald has return.
ed from a visit to her sister in Tor-
onto.
The large tree which' was torn up
by the loots on West street
last fall is now flourishing on
Mr. Seager's lawn, having suc-
cessfully stood the heavy frosts
and the transplanting.
Mr. Halstead, who was unfortunate
in loosing fingers by two accidents
at the organ factory, is now employ-
ed at his old profession of cleaning
feathers.
Mrs. Jennings of the Bayfield Road
is surfeiting from an attack of rheu-
matism.
At Victoria street church on Sun-
day evening lase an appreciative con-
gregation listened to an exceleent
sermon from the pastor, RevDs.
Medd, from the words. "Now, when.
Daniel knew that the writing was
signed he kneeled upon his knees three
times a day and- prayed and gave
fhanks before God as he did 'afore -
time." A very charming organ of-
fertbry was played by Miss Roache.
The anthem, "The Lord is King,"
was beautifully rendered by the choir.

The following refers to a former
Goderich boy, and is from an Ottawa
paper : "Don McGillicuddy, son of
Mr. Thos. McGillicuddy of Toronto ;
assistant physical director of the Y.
M. C. A., started this morning to
ride from Ottawa to Toronto on a
bicycle. 'He loft the Association
buildipg ae six o'clock and expects to
reach Toronto tomorrow night at ter
a ride of 280 miles." Mr. McGilli-
cuddy was unable to continue his ride
farthur than Napanee, however, and
proceeded from there by train. He
had ridden 143 miles in eighteen
hours. Hits many friends in connect-
ion with the centraP Y.M.C.A. on his
return presented him, with a hand-
some musical clock. He is supervis-
or of the;new playgrounds at Ottawa.
The Godecich District meeting will
be held in the North street Method-
ist church on the 18th and 19th. On
the evening of the 18th_ a meeting
will be held to discuss church union,
Rev. J.. E. Ford of Wesley church,
Clinton, ancl,Rey. Mr. Conway of the
Nilo will speak.
Mr. Frank H. McLean of Red Deer,
Alta., brother of Mr. Allen D. McLean
of town, has been joined lately by
his brothers, Chas. and Henry. The
two other brothers remain in God-
erich.
The benefit concert given in Odd -
fellows hall on Friday evening was
not as well attended as might have
hen expected. The program was a
good one, the Band giving some fine
selections and Mrs. King rendered
some solos in her usual well known
charming manner. Also a couple ' of
drills given by some,of the C. I. sea -
dents were very pretty. The reader
Miss Pearl. O'Niel, was something of
a disappointment, her readings toting
old and not up to the mark. Mr.
King was accoanpaniste.
On Wednesday evening of lae week
a quite wedding was solemnized in
Knox church, Miss May A., eldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Beenard
Wilson, becoming the bride of Harry
A. 'McCreath. Rev. Geo. Ross
performed the ceremony at .7 o'clotk.
The wedding march was played by
Miss Evelyn Wilson. After the n.up-
tial knot was tied the happy couple
drove to their future home on South
street, where about thirty of their
relativen and friends were ,gathered to
wePoorne them. After congratulations,
all- sat down to a dainty wedding

The knife wibb which Edward Jar-
dine vonfessed ho emrdered Lizzie
Anderson, is now in the hands ot the
authorities. Shortly atter Jardine's
trial. it was learned that a knife had
been found near the _spot where Jar-
dine stated he threw the weapon. It
was eacured by Chief Pclitiebliwaito
awl forwarded. to headquarters at
Toronto, where it will be subject to
a minute examination. A. boy found
the knife an the la.ke. bank shortly
after Jardine's arrest and, it has heen
in his possession ever since. It is
a iriediern-sized, black -handled one,
wit*,twQ blade, opening £som the
same end. An examination ot the
knife Showed undoubtedly that there
were bloodstains on the hilts of the
blades. The tiding of the knife go-
es. to prove the testimony given by
sevoral who described at the trial the
kind of knife Jardine carried.
Tuckersmith Township.
Mr. Sidney Johns, an old resident
of this township, died at her home in
Seaforth on Wednesday of last week
after an illness of a fortnight' due to an
attack of paralysis. Mn. Johns was
a daughter of the late Robert Car-
nochan, of Tuekersmith and after* her
marriage to Mr, Sidney Johns, un-
til about nine years ago, when they
moved to Seaforth, was a residents of
the west end, She was well known
and highly •respected in this town-
ship and also in Seaforth. Mr. Jellies
survives. The funeral book place on
Friday afternoon last to Maitland -
bank cemetery.
