current reports of serious damage from

one day I happened to see an advertise-

I concluded to try the remedy. The re-

he had lived to a good old age, being

month g, Aug. 12th. Mr. Straith had beta

were upon hint, and his mind ou the
verge of collapse. He was a thorough

Mrs. John M. Climie died at her home
on Elma street, Listowel on Thursday
night, Aug.. 11th, a little before eleven
o'clock. Throughout a, long life Mra.
Climie enjoyed remarkably good health
until about a year ago when she began
to fail and she has been unable to leave
her room for the past four months.
Though her recovery has not been looked
for, the end came quickly at the last,
her strong constitution failed her and
she quietly fell asleep. The deceased,
Jean McKiddie Hay, was the eldest
daughter of the Late Robert and Cathar-
ine Hay and the eldest child of a family
of fourteen. She was born at Newton
of Glammis in Forfarshire, Scotland,
where her father was factor of the Glam-

1824, she was in her eightieth year at the
time of her death. She came with her
parents and the other members of the
family to Canada in 1848 and lived for
a year or two at Bowmanville, Ont., af-
terwards
her father took up land in In-

After a trip to Quebec, New Bruns-
wick and Nova Scotia, H. B. Cowan,
Superintendent of Agricultnreal So-
cieties, returns more than ever convin-
ced that there are too many Fall Fairs
in Ontario. In Quebec he found the
agricultural councils had taken away
the right to hold fairs previously held
by 400 farmer's clubs, a.id limited it to
comity agricultural societies. In all
provinces the societies owned and cir-
culated well-bred stock, and they found
this most beneficial. The good -farms
competition, which had been cendnCted
for thirteen years in Quebec, was also
found to be productive of good results.
Here is a hard knock at the modern
young farmer of to -day by an eastern
contemporary in the Ottawa Valley:
"One of the obstacles which agricultural
managers have to contend against is the
unwillingness of yonng men to take
stock and other exhibits to the fair, as
their sires were wont to do a generation
age. The modern young man, never
lacking in pocket money, is disposed to
take a fine roadster, a nice carriage and
a pretty girl to the anneal exhibition of
the agricultural society, his idea being to
have a pleasant social time rather than
to win prizes. hence the list of ex•
hihits, apart from the horse ring, has
been dwindled down to a fine point and
the life of the society is in danger. • The
officers of the society world fain hare
the modern young man understood that
their aim is to conduct an agricultural
exhibition, nota matrimonial bureau,"
