Reid and Wife of Mount Foreet Sustain Lee* Serious Injuries When Motor Hits a Street Car, Toronto, Nov. 6.-Stil1 another motor car accident was added to the year's long list yesterday., wheu a machine eollided with. a street car at Harbor(' and Grace street, at 3.40 o'clock, and three of the passengers in the motor were injured, one very seriously. As well, a dozen people in the street car was considerably shaken up. The injured are: Mrs. Sane A. Holstead, 71 Madison avenue, fractured skull, mer die. George'J. Reid, Mount Forest, bad- ly shaken. up and cut about the face; not serious. Mrs. G. J. Reid,' badly shaken up and suffering. from elaeolc, cut about face; not Sen2.01111. Mrs. Jane A. Holstead, wife of the owner of the ear, was thrown out, falling on her head. She sustained a fractured skull along with other in- juries, and at the Western Hospital early this morning is was announced that she had not yet regained con- sciousness. The other four occupants of the car fared better, though all • were shaken up, and two were cut by glass from th.e street ear and from the front of the motor. The accident is the first that has happened on Harbord street in con- nection with a street car sine the service was inaugurated recently. The motor was traveling east back of an eastbound street car. At Grace street the car stopped and the chauf- feur of the motor turned northward, running behind it, with the intention of going on Grace street. lent a west- bound street car was approaching on the other tracks and before the motor could clear it the car struck the back end, • The force of the collision was so great that a half-inch iron. rod in the fender of the ear was broken in two, the fender and the front of the oar were smashed up and the rear of the motor car was wrecked. When they came together the motor ear was pushed along for a distance before it became disengaged. Then it swerved around so tliat the rear wheels banged against the eurb. The street car was going at con- siderable speed when the collision took' place, but the motor car had slowed down to turn. In the street car were about a dozen -people, who were jolted around by, the shock of the collision. The three injured persons were tak- en to the Western Hospital. Mr. and -Mrse-Reid were able to be taken to the residence of 'their host, Mr. Hol- stead, seyeral hours later. Neither Halstead nor the chauffeur, William Lowe, were injured. The injured were •eushed to the hos- pital in other motor cars that Cams along. Mr. Reid is mann eer of • the Mount Forest branch of the Traders' Bank. Shot by Burglars. New York, Nov. 6. -Burglars, hats. trated in their attempt to A•ob the country home of Isaao Guggenheim, the millionaire copper magnate, at Port Washington earlyyesterday, shot down and killed the night watchman, Alfred Crooker. The burglars escaped •in a boat. After the sound of shots naembers of the Guggenheim family and. their servante • ran out of the house and found Crooker 'lying deed on the lawn in a pool of blood.
