Robert Young of the Walkerton road
died on Thursday, July 28th, aftera two
eveeke' illness. He was 69 years of age,

Rev. W. D. Magee, pastor of the Bap-
tist church, of Goderich, officiated at a
wedding Wednesday evening, Aug. 3rd,
at 6 o'clock at the residence of George
Fowler, Bayfield road. The groom is
Robert Garenby, of Goderich, and the
bride Mrs. Elizabeth Forbes, of Norwich
mother of Mrs. George Fowler. The
ceremony was performed in the presence
of a few relatives.

The Uxbridge Journal says that about
42 years ago Mrs. Reeves lad aside an
ear of pop corn. intending to use it in
some wax work. It was forgotten or
neglected, and lay in the house for 42

over five thousand pipes, the smallest
a piccolo, being half an inch long, and
the largest a double open diapason, or
32 -foot "C" pipe. The vox humaua

In the death of Mrs, Wm. M:urole which

recipient of an exceedingly handsome
present and. address. The address is
signed by one hundred and forty seven

morocco. The address was accompanied
by a beautiful grandfather's clock, with
ease of mahogany and brass trimmings.

bis years in ,Seaforth vicinity is Mr.
George Hahkirk, of the 2ud con„ Mc-
Killop. Although over 80 years of age be
has within the last few weeks, lag over
180 rods of ditch and placed therein over
3,000 tile. On Monday of last week the
old gentleman was also assisting in tak-
ing off a neighbor's hay crop. Mr. Hate
kirk settled in McKillop township
seventy years ago and has since resided
there continuously. When he came here
in 1834 the Huron road had just' been
underbrushed and a road opened up to
Egmondville, where the Canada Com-
pany had erected a grist mill the year
previous.

A quiet, unassuming, but jolly wed•
ding was held at the residence of the
bride's mother, Mrs. 3. Hillen-Lnyton,
at Clinton on Wednesday, Ang. 3rd, at
high Donn, when her daughter, Maggie
May Hilden was united iu the holy bonds
of matrimony to O Ober, telegraph and
ticket agent at Berlin. The ceremony
was performed by Rev. Dr. Cook,
During the haat ten days the temper-
ance workers have been actively engaged
in canvassing Clinton in favor of local
prohibition, and at the council meeting
on Monday night, they presented a
strong petition signed by 236 municipal
electors (being a majority of those who
voted at the last election,) asking the
council to pass a bylaw as provided by
the statutes, to be submitted to the peo
pie iu January next, and to put the
same in force if the electors so decide at
that time. The council granted the re-
quest, and the campaign is on. It 1'

A we11•known figure passed away et
Walkerton ou Thursday, Jnly, 28th in
the person of Mr. Robert Young. He
had lived in Walkerton neighborhoo l
since 1853, when he took up a bush farce
in the township of Carrick. Born at
Summerhill, County of Meath, Irelailrl,
are emigrated to Canada with his mother,
brother and two sisters iti 1849. At
first they settled in Guelph, where they
remained only a few years, Then as we
have said he came up to Carrick and
took up lots 22 glad 23, Con. D. This
land he sold in 1874. Shortly after
wards he bought a 20 acre lot near the
Walkerton Cemetery, and here he and
his brother continued to live ever since,
except for a, period of seven years that
they epeut in Manitoba.
At ilighltoon on Tuesday, August 2nd,
a quiet but very pretty wedding cere-
mony was celebrated at the home of Tr
Whitely, at Goderich the Rev. G. N
Hazen, pastor of North street Methorli t
church, being the officiating clergymen.
The floral decorations of the drawing -
room were of white and green, and were
exceedingly tasteful, and beneath a
large floral bell Miss Copha Fisher,
youngest daughter of Mrs. David Fisher
and sister of Mrs. Whitely, and Will W.
Smith, formerly of the Goderich branch
of the Bank of Commerce, but now pay-
ing teller in the Central National Bank
at Battle Creek, Mich., plighted their
troth.
Tho relatives and friends in Carlow lo-
cality of Rev. Colin Young, of Prince
Albert, Sask., were grieved to hear of
the sudden death of his wife, which oc-
curred at their home in the West on
Thursday, July 21st. Mrs. Young had
been in her usual good health and was
helping in preparations for a Sabbath
school social when the unexpected sum-
mons came and she expired before any
medical assistance could,be procured.
The deceased was formerly Reiss Jean
Russell, of Arnprior, Ont., and had the
degree of B.A. from Queen's University.
She was married to Mr. Young about
seven years ago. She leaves three child-
ren, one girl and two boys, the youngest
an iufant of eleven months. With her
husband, she had been at Prince Albert
for four years.
