Walton I unit held its Christmas meetings
Wednesday evening, December 14 when a
pot luck supper was enjoyed by all. Twenty-
five members and guests were present.
The devotions were presented by Marjorie
Humphries with a Christmas Tableau
assisted by Judy Emmrich and Marie
Coutts. Christmas carols were sung with
Doreen Hackwell the pianist.
The story of the Legend of the Black
Madonna was given by Marie McGavin in
the absence of Rev. Bonnie Lamble.
Marie McGavin opened the business with
a poem, Christmas Gifts. Minutes were read
by Audrey Hackwell. Roll call was
answered by a Christmas Symbol and song.
Announcements of coming events were
given out by the President. There will be a
Christmas Eve Service at 8:30 pm. Bluevale
Church will have their Christmas Eve ser-
vice at 7 pm. Music numbers were given by
Gloria Wilbee then all joined in with
Christmas songs. The evening was closed
with prayer and a gift exchange in charge of
Gloria Love and Viola Traviss.
WALTON 11 UNIT
There were 14 members and one visitor
present for the December meeting of Unit II
held at Maxine Houston's home. Members
sat down to a delicious Christmas pot luck
supper.
Later a short devotional period followed
with Maxine in charge. The theme was Day
of Wonder and several Christmas carols
were sung.
A few dates to remember were mention-
ed: U.C.W. Installation January 8, annual
meeting January 22. Games were enjoyed
bringing a most delightful evening to a
close. Next meeting in February.
DUFF'S UNITED CHURCH
Sunday morning greeters at Duffs United
Church were Ken and Leona McDonald.
Glenda Carter was organist for the
Christmas hymns. Junior choir sang an an-
them, 'Welcome the Babe' accompanied by
Marion Godkin at the piano. Rev. Bonnie
Lamble took as her sermon, "The Hand-
maid'. December ushers: Barry Hoegy, Ian
Wilbee and Murray Dennis.
The service at Walton will begin with the
announcements at 9:55 am during the
winter months.
SCHOOL CONCERT
The basement of Duff's United Church
was packed with parents, grandparents and
friends for the Walton Public School on
Thursday afternoon, December 15.
'The Christmas Orange' was a musical
play presented by the pupils of the Walton
School. Mr. Gary Jewitt was M.C. for the
following program. Choir opened with
"Christmas". Characters were: Sarah age
14 - Loni Horst; Jeff age 9-10 - Chad Hoegy;
Christine 6-7 - Kerry Blake; Great -Gramma
- Stephanie MacDonald; Miss Stone - Patti -
Jo Ward; Santa Claus - Kelly Boven.
Choruses sung were: Christmas Doll;
Hockey Song; Fashion Parade; World's
Best Christmas Tree.
Christmas Tree in a one -room Country
School. Welcome - Miss Stone; Opening
recitation - Nicholas Den Haan.
Kindergarten: poem - 6 little evergreens
were: Paul Linton, Maegan Beuennan,
Cynthia McClure, Rose Peters, Nicholas
Faun, Joshua Horst. Play: "The Little Fir
Tree". Trees were Christopher Hill, Jody
Vander Veen; Adam Koehler, Rebekah
Brandon, Charlene Thompson, Woodsman -
Christopher Blake. Dog - Paul Linton,
Fairies - Tammy McClure, Kassie-Jo
Hoegy, Katie Emmrich, Leanne Den Haan,
Katie Lubbers Amanda McClory, Kelly
McDonald. Santa - Bradley Lubbers.
Grade one presented the play: "The Sulky
Brownies". Santa - Jason MacDonald; Mrs.
Santa - Alicia Dalton; Two Brownies - Pam
Elliott, Dennis Rijkhoff; Toy Soldiers -
Justine McQuire, Chris Siemon, Brian
Hawks Singing Dolls - Wendy Glouser,

Playlet - "Ten Minute Cure" playing the
part of Mother - Sherry Power, Wesley -
Mark Beuerman, Drill, "Christmas Time's
A Coming" was presented by Jason Badley,
Tracy Goodland, Jeffrey Bourne, Christina
Kuntz, Matthew Shortreed, Erin Siemon,
Craig Somerville.
Tap Dance by Brent Pryce. Closing with
the choir K-3 with "Miracles, Mysteries."
PEOPLE
Members of the McLaughlin family held
their Christmas get together in the Walton
Hall on Sunday.
Home from Clinton hospital are Elva
Bolger and Chris Stevenson who spent a cou-
ple of days recently in University Hospital,
London. All their friends wish them a good
recovery.
People in the village appreciated the
Junior choir and their leader, Rev. Bonnie
Lamble when they sang Christmas Carols
from door to door last Thursday evening.

Sunday school presents pageant of color

The Sunday School children presented the
pageant, A Rainbow of Promises, at the
White Gift service at Hibbert United Church
Sunday morning. Dressed in the colors of
the rainbow, they told the story of God's pro-
mise to Noah and to Isaiah, and related
them to the Christmas Story, As each color
was mentioned in poetry and scripture, a
verse of the Rainbow Song was sung and a
color on a beautiful rainbow was lit up with
miniature Christmas lights.
Narrators for the pageant were
Christopher Scott and Leanne Gardiner.
Also taking part were Heather Kerslake,
Tessa Dill, Nicholas Chessell, Nevin, Tara
and Kailey Dow, Julie and Becky Martyn,
Steven, Lisa and Amanda Pullman, LariJo
Gardiner, Carrah and Cain Templeman,
Christie, Jeremy, and T.J. Clough,
Christena and Adam Miller, Pamela Miller,
Cassandra Parsons, Dan and Kim Semen,
Sarah and Trevor Elliott, and Susie
McKellar.
The children were assisted in preparing
for the pageant by their teachers, Carol Ann
Scott, Alice Gardiner, Bev Templeman, Eva
Laing, Cathy Elliott, and Ruth Laing.

thanks and hoped to attend as many
meetings as possible.
The draws on the tickets followed which
are 1st prize, side of pork won by Harold
Black, RR 5 Walton, 2nd Texas Mickey, won
by G. Gatz, Listowel, 3rd ($75.00) won by
Bernadette Smith, RR 6, Goderich, 4th
($50.00) won by Marlin Matten, Bayfield, 5th
($25.00) won by Percy Adams, Huronview,
Clinton, 6th (Boa of Kramers Honey) won by
Jack Hamilton, RR 1, Varna, 7th (1 goose)
won by Emmanuel Caroalho, Listowel; 8th
(1 Gander) won by Gerald McDonald, RR 3
Blyth. All prizes were donated by members
of the 4th Degree. A delicious turkey dinner,
planned and supplied by member's wives,
was much enjoyed, and dancing to the
music of Mozart's Band finished off the very
enjoyable evening.
PEOPLE
Judy Enns and friend Tammy from Strat-
ford called on her mother Olga Eckert on
Sunday. Olga returned home from hospital
last week. Keith and Rita Kelly from Strat-
ford also called on the Eekerts Saturday
evening.

The Sunday School Superintendent, Alice
Gardiner, led in the worship service with
scriptures and prayer being given by Sherri
and Sarah Elliott. A reading, Manger in the
Cross was taken by Hugh and Karen Norris,
Michelle Martyn and Danny Elliott, Lisa
Gardiner and Sherri Elliott.
The third candle of the Advent Wreath
was lit by Craig, Peggy and Ian Kerslake.
The offering was received by Tom Laing
and Dennis Elliott, with Dan Elliott giving
the Offertory Prayer.
The service concluded with the congrega-
tion joining in the singing of the chorus of
the Rainbow Theme Song and the
benediciton, pronounced by the Rev. Lucie
Milne.

Dorthy Dillon returned from hospital to
the home of her sister Madeline (Mrs.
Sylvester Ryan) of RR 2, Gadshill. We all
wish you Dorothy continuing improvement
in your health.
