Collection for needy nets $i50 in food gifts Seaforth's first-ever collection of goods for the needy, held in conjunction with the Santa Claus parade, was according to its organizers, a success. S. Dave Staffer reports approximately $750 worth of canned food items were collected along the parade route, as well as rive bags of clothing. The City of London, in a similar project earlier this Christmas season, col- lected $9;800 worth of food items from its parade. In comparison, Mr. Stiffen feels Seaforth did really well. "We were really pleased with the response from the public," he said. "We bad asked people to bring one or two items to the parade, and they were bringing bags of groceries." Mr. Stiffen noted he was also pleased with the response of corporate sponsors of the event - in particular, Vincent's Farm Equip- ment Ltd., who donated the trailers used to collect the goods; Staffen's Lawncare, who donated the tractors; and Pepsi and Coke, who donated food items. All items collected will be given to the tocal branch of the Huron County Christmas Bureau for distribution to needy families in the Seaforth area. Anyone still wishing to make a donation can do so at Mac's Milk, Bob's Barber Shop, or the Seaforth Meat Market. The iast day to do so is December 13. Mr. Steffen hopes to run the collection again next year, and would like to offer a challenge to other surrounding communities to do the same. "I'd like to challenge them to meet or ex- ceed what Seaforth did," he said. "Because ultimately, everyone benefits."
