New business opens, another yet to comer
There is one new business on Seaforth's
Main Street and another to come.
Norma Jeane's, is a brand new clothing
store which held its grand opening on
November 18.
The store is owned by Marilyn Engel and
is being managed by Fredie Smith. Ms.
Engel grew up in Seaforth as a teenager,
went to school to become a fashion designer,
and has been living in Toronto and putting
together her own line of clothing which car-
ries the Norma Jeane label. This line of
clothing will be available in the store in
Seaforth by spring.
Mrs. Smith has lived in Seaforth for the
past seven years. She says she knows from
having teenage children of her own, that
there are le
like, ut which they have had to go to Strles Seaforth's young at -
ford, London, Toronto or other nearby cities
to get. From talking to these kids she and
Ms. Engel found a reason to open Norma
Jeane's.
Mrs. Smith says she is surprised at how
fast the store has attracted attention, and
adds there has been a lot of traffic and good
sales so far.
Norma Jeane's sells clothing aimed at
"teenagers, or the young at heart." The
store currently carries only women's
clothing, but Ms. Engel is hoping to • get
men's fashions as well fn the future. Offered
are different styles in jeans skirts, etc., vin-
tage clothing, and what Mrs. Smith calls
"unique boutique."
Ms. Smith says Norma Jeane's will help
stop young people from going outside
Seaforth to do their shopping, and will be
good for Seaforth.
"We're not competing with anyone.
There's no other store like this in Seaforth,
so how can we compete."
Norma Jeane's will soon be getting. a
sign, but its location on Main Street is
becoming well known, and it has been dubb-
ed "the only purple store in Seaforth."
SLENDER CONCEPT
Toning beds, the newest rage in fitness
salons, will be coming to Seaforth.
Judy Kuehl, with her parents June and
Gerald Martene, will be opening a Slender
Concept fitness centre in Seaforth. The
fitness centre will have six of the toning
machines, and will be located at Flower
Magic's former location on Main Street.
Mrs. Kuehl has been using toning beds
herself since they recently became popular.
She says they are basically motorized
machines which move a person in various
ways in slow, repetitious movements. There
are six different machines for various exer-
cises, and the person exercising spends
eight minutes on each machine.
The machines don't give a strenuous
aerobic workout. "When you get done you
feel good," says Mrs. Kuehl, adding you
don't need to have athletic wear -just non -

restrictive clothing.
Mrs. Kuehl says these machines tone
muscles, increase blood and oxygen flow to
various body areas and increases circula-
tion. She says they can be beneficial to peo-
ple with certain physical problems such as
heart problems, stroke victims, or those
with arthritis.
Four people Have been hired to work part
time in the business, and Mrs. Kuehl will be
the manager. Mrs. Kuehl is targetting
December 13 as the date when the doors of
the new fitness centre will open.
CANDLELIGHT STUDIO OF
PHOTOGRAPHY
Candlelight studio of photography recent-
ly started carrying video movies. There are
currently 200 videos in the store, and pro-
prietor Chuck Hasson says there will be
more coming in the future.
PIZZA TRAIN
Bob Fisher of Pizza train put a new awn-
ing on his building recently, and will be do-
ing interior renovations in January. There
will be more seats added, and a counter and
stools built around the windows. There will
also be new products added to the menu.
FLOWER MAGIC opened for business in
its new location, and owner Jean Wolfe says
she has been seeing about six times the
usual traffic through the store and is very
pleased.
THE SUNOCO station has a new look as
new siding with new coloring was put
around the top of the building. There will
also be a new sign put on the building this
month.

Local schools on list for expenditures
St. James School, Seaforth and St.
Patrick's School, Dublin could be bigger and
better in a fewyears time if the Huron -Perth
Roman Catholielseparate school board 1989
capital forecast budget is approved by the
Minsky of Education.
St. James School is number two on the list
of 12 projects. The board wants to convert
the school's general purpose room to two

health room; and the staff room to a Special
Education resource room. It would also like
to see construction of an additional
classroom, a gymnasium, a library and an
administration area.
The board has set 1990 as a target date for
this project with a price tag of $896,700.
At present St.James is situated on a block
shared with residential properties and St.
James Catholic Church. The permanent
construction consists of five classrooms, a
multi-purpose room (1500 sqaure feet), a
single room which operates as a shared
staff, health, and duplicating room. a single
room shared by principal and secretary as
one office, and a mechanical room.
Sharing the site with the permanent con-
struction are three portable classrooms that
date back to 1970. The 1988 capital forecast
budget called for an additional portable
classroom to be added in 1990.
The number three spot on the priority list
is taken by St. Patrick's Scoot, Dublin. In
the works for this .school are two new
classrdom5, a Special Education resource
room and a library. Target year is 1991 at a
cost of $549,900.
The board also hopes to purchase by next
year 10 new portable classrooms for schools
throughout the system including St.
Patrick's, Dublin and St. Patrick's,
Kinkora. The $388,000 cost should aid in the
system's enrolment growth_
The total cost of the boards's 1989 forecast
plan is 814,259,840. But their plan of action
depends upon the ministry for funding.
Vice-chairman Vincent McInnes pointed
out that "these priorities ate not etched in
stone." He said the final decision is "strictly
the government's perogative."
The board expects to begin hearing
responses to its requests by March or April
1989.
