Seaforth Atoms win tournament
The Atoms travelled to Goderich Tuesday
evening and Seaforth fans had lots to cheer
about with lots of goals being scored.
Seaforth's Boyd Devereaux started the
scoring off, when with less than two minutes
gone in the first period, he got an unassisted
goal. The Seaforth squad than waited until
the last two minutes of the first when Shawn
Anstett scored, assisted by Jason Hender-
son. About a minute later, Mike Hugill add-
ed another goal, assisted by Boyd
Devereaux. But the first period wasn't over
at this point. Boyd came back to score again
with only 35 seconds left. He was assisted by
Pat Gridzak and Brent Hulley.
There was a lot of passing and shooting in
the second period, but nether team could
score.
The goal scoring in the third period
started off with Goderich scoring at the 6:28
mark. About three minutes later Seaforth's
Jason Murray scored an unassisted goal.
Boyd Devereaux ended the scoring with
another unassisted goal, leaving a final
score of 6-1.
The Atoms travelled to Harriston this
weekend for their first tournament of the
season.
The first game was on Saturday against
Clifford and proved to be a close and ex-
citing contest. Seaforth started the scoring
at the 4:52 mark of the first period the a goal
by Mike Hugill assisted by Pat Gridzak.
The fans sure saw a lot of back and forth
hockey but neither team could manage to
get the puck behind the goalies, until the
third period. Seaforth's Boyd Devereaux
came back with a short handed goal at the
6:14 mark of the third period assisted by
Jason Henderson. The Seaforth fans felt a
little more at ease in the stands, until the
Clifford team added a goal with two minutes
and 28 seconds left in the game.
But Seaforth managed to hold them off
and win the game 2 to 1. This advanced the
team to the A Division and it moved on to
play Drayton on Sunday.
The Drayton game started off close again
in the first period with only one goal scored
by Seaforth's Boyd Devereaux, unassisted.
The second period saw more action in the
Drayton's net, when Seaforth scored three
more goals. The first was scored by Shawn
Anstett assisted by Brent Hulley, the second
by Jason Henderson assisted by Shawn
Anstett. Boyd Devereaux finished the scor-
ing in the second with an unassisted goal to
leave the score 4-0 at the end Of two periods.
The Drayton team came out strong in the
third period scoring a quick goal.
The Seaforth team however wasn't
satisfied with a three goal lead, so came
back in the third with two more goals, winn-
ing the game 7-1.
Scoring in the third for Seaforth were Pat
Gridzak, Mike Hugill and Mark McNichol.
Assists went to Boyd Devereaux, Jason
Henderson and Mike Hugill. The boys then
advanced to the final game against
Walkerton.
The fans were expecting the boys to really
have their work cut out for them, as Walker-
ton had advanced to the finals with two wins
with scores of 10-1.
The boys loosened the tension fir the fans
with only two minutes and 44 s onds into
the game when Steve Mclnally scored
assisted by Mike Hugill. Boyd
added another goal assisted
Mclnally, to finish the first period
score.
The second period gave the Serth fans
more reason to cheer when Boyd Devereaux
and Shawn Anstett both scored. Earning
assists were Mike Hugill and ChriaMarion.
The third period saw only goals cored in
the Seaforth net. The Seaforth 1pys just
couldn't seem to get the puck ast the
Walkerton goalie.

Walkerton scored their first goal on a
penalty shot and their next when Seaforth
was shot handed with only four minutes left
to play. The time finally ran out on the clock
to earn the Seaforth team their first tourna-
ment victory.
All the boys played excellent, thanks to
great coaching by Doug Anstett, Ray
Anstett Jr. and Charlie Robertson.
Both goaltenders Chad Lamont and Scott
Wood made a lot of terrific saves, and there
was some excellent back checking by Colin
Devereuax, Jason Smith and Mike Vock.

one game on Saturday at 5:30 pm against
Clinton.
