Two vie for Hibbert -Logan HPRCSSB position There are two candidates for the position of trustee to represent Hibbert and Logan townships and the town of Mitchell with the Huron -Perth Roman Catholic Separate School Board. They are: STEVE J. MURRAY 'Steve Murray, his wife Anne, and their three children live on RR 2 Dublin. Mr. Mur- ray is the owner of his own general in- surance nsurance agency. "As a parent of three children in the separate school system I wish to be an ac- tive participant in the decisions of the Huron -Perth RCSS Board. While trustees must be concerned with decisions and policies affecting all schools, it is im- perative that each school district has a trustee dedicated to ensure improvements occur locally. As trustee, I will be actively involved in this commitment to the Separate School supporters of Mitchell, Dublin, Logan and Hibbert Townships," says Mr. Murray as his reason for wanting to be a member of the board. LOUIS MALONEY Louis Maloney is also seeking the position of trustee with the HPRCSSB, and has been actively involved in politics in the past. He STEVE MURRAY was a trustee in the police village of Dublin from 1972 to 1982, and has been a Huron Perth Separate School trustee from 1982 to 1988. Mr. Maloney and his wife Therese have two daughters and four grandchildren He LOU MALONEY has been the owner of the Dublin Feed Mill Limited for 12 years. Mr. Maloney says he would like to return as trustee "to continue to serve the ratepayers in the townships of Hibbert and Logan and in the Town of Mitchell." SALLY RATHWELL Sally Rathwell was acclaimed to the posi- tion of HCBE trustee representing Hensall and Tuckersmith for her second term. Before she ran for a board position three years ago, Mrs. Rathwell was involved in school politics and worked on an ad hoc committee to review the proposed closure of the Vanastra public school. After the com- mittee work she attended every meeting of the HCBE as a spectator, and after two years was approached to run for a trustee seat. Mrs. Rathwell takes her acclamation as a stamp of approval, rather than as an indica- tion of a lack of interest in school politics. She says if she hadn't run, she knows there are people who would have. • A future priority Mrs. Rathwell sees is the board continuing its dealings with the pro- vincial government to get funding for building maintenance. Mrs. Rathwell, her husband Steve, and their two boys live in Vanastra. GRAEME CRAIG Graeme Craig will be representing McKillop and Seaforth after his acclama- tion to the position of trustee with the HCBE. Mr. Craig has spent six years with the board. Mr. Craig's former riding was Hallett, McKillop and Seaforth, and this area was represented by two trustees, but this was changed in the board's recent redistribution. Mr. Craig is a cash crop farmer and an in- surance agent, and he and his wife Helen and their two children live in McKillop township near Walton. Mr. Craig also sees building maintenance as a priority with the HCBE, and he says guarding the best interests of the students is always another concern. But basically he feels Huron County has a sound educational system. "Students who graduate in Huron County do well in post high school education, and those who go to the work force also have a good grounding. But that doesn't mean we can't be more effective." RONALD MURRAY Acclaimed to the HPRCSSB for Seaforth, McKillop and Tuckersmith is Ronald Mur- ray. Mr. Murray has been with the board for 12 years, and was the chairman for three years. Buildings are as much an issue with the separate school board as they are with the HCBE, and Mr. Murray says permanent ac- commodation is being sought to replace the large number of portables the HPRCSSB is using. He says the board has done a lot of building in the past six years, and has spent approximately $3,000,000 on this. The new high school to be built in Stratford is another project the separate school board will be dealing with. Mr. Murray says he got involved with the board because he finds the work interesting. He still finds it that way, and says he still learns. Mr. Murray is a cash crop and hog farmer at RR 1 Dublin. He and his wife Theresa have four boys. .70 /vi o 441 YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO a Co MEET THEpo CAN DI DATE& Runnir,v in the upcoming Municipal Election in the Town of Seaforth ALL CANDIDATES NIGHT Candidates will present responses to prepared questions, followed by an open question and answer period. Seaforth couple to move egg quota John and Jantina Benjamins of Seaforth have won the right to relocate their egg lay- ing flock to a new ,.trm ending a dispute with the Ontario Egg Producers Marking board that began earlier this year. The Benjamins invested in a barn on the smaller of two farms they own near Seaforth, then applied to the marketing board in February to move the flock, But the board regards this type of move as a quota transfer and has a ban on transfers of any egg quota that was obtained by con- verting from the pullet business. The Benjamin's flock is a pullet coversion completed in February 1981. Despite the lack of approval from the board Benjamin moved his flock to his new barn. The issue went before the Ontario Farm Products Appeal Tribunal which held a public hearing October 12 and issued its decision this week. It has granted Mr. Ben- unins the right to relocate his flock, but s fined him for defying the marketing board by ordering him to leave his barns empty for six months when the flock now in the barn reaches one year of age.
