ning followed by games and singing.
Everyone feels so much more energetic
after the Fun and Fitness sessions.
Residents enjoyed a special treat at the

Church members ministered to residents in

last three years. I'd like to see the mayor
pull everyone together," he said.
Mr. McLaughlin said he personally has a
positive attitude about Seaforth, but
believes council should endorse what it
says. He cited shopping in Seaforth as an
example.
Other concerns of Mr. McLaughlin in-
clude better use of the Striking Committee

uality as a perversion.
Campaigning
Mr. Clark told the audience of approx-
imately 60 people that he will . make
himself available any time, any place for
the next five weeks of campaigning.
"This party has a lot of appeal out there
and we have the power of the Holy Spirit,"
he said.
In conclusion he quoted Woodrow
Wilson, saying, "I'd rather fail in a cause
that will some day succceed then succeed
in a cause that will someday fail."

seem to be interested in what is being done
with their tax dollars, and she would have
preferred to have been voted into her
position.
"They've got me whether they want me or
not. I would have been nervous about an
election, I think everyone is, but at least
when there's an election you know you're
the choice of the ratepayers," says Mrs.
Wallace.
Bill Carnochan, acclaimed deputy -reeve
of Tuckersmith Township would also have
liked to have seen a bigger election in the
municipality.
"I would have liked to have seen a little
more interest from the community. I
wouldn't say it (tha acclamations) was bad
for the township, but people complain about
high taxes but they won't take an interest in
what the township's problems are."
But Sally Rathwell, who was returned by
acclamation to the position of trustee for
Hensall and Tuckersmith with the Huron
County Board of Education, sees things
another way.
"I take it as a stamp of approval, and not
to mean that no one else is crazy enough to
run for public school board," Mrs. Rathwell
explains.
Mrs. Rathwell had to campaign hard to

Mr. McLaughlin is the owner of
McLaughlin Chev-Olds, and has been in
business in Seaforth for 26 years. He is a
member of the Knights of Columbus and the
Lions Club, and has been president of the
latter organization twice. For the past two
years Mr. McLaughlin has chaired the
Egmondville Heart Fund..
Mr. McLaughlin is the father of two
children, and a grandfather to one, and
classifies himself as available.
Grey about one year ago.
Mr. Clark now resides in Wingham,
working for General Contracting, but was
born and raised in Owen Sound. He and his
wife, Pat, have seven children which
range from the ages of 25 to four years old.
After working in the printing industry
for 19 years, Mr. Clark went into farming,
operating a dairy farm. -
After his experiences on the farm, Mr,
Clark said, "I have a lot of compassion for
what farmers are going through."
Touching briefly on why he is running in
the 1988 federal election and why he chose
to run for the CHP, Mr. Clark said, "I feel I
have a responsibility as a father to bring
this nation bacck to its senses... I feel it's
going downhill fast."
win her trustee position three years ago, and
was against an incumbent and another can-
didate. She went to every door in Clinton and
Tuckersmith while campaigning, and so did
the other people running for the position,
and even the director of education remark-
ed that seldom was a campaign so hard
fought for a trustee position.
So Mrs. Rathwell was prepared for
another long campaign before she was
notified of her acclamation, and she doesn't'
. see that acclamation as a negative thing.
She says when the people in the township see
it's time for a change another candidate will
surface, and if she hadn't run she knows
there were people who would have.
However, Mrs. Rathwell does
acknowledge that the lack of involvement in
municipal politics can be a problem.
Most politicians agree that too many ac-
clamations isn't healthy, and seem to ac-
tually look forward to running in an election.
Betty Kroonen, who is running against
five other people for three positions as
trustee of the police village of Dublin says of
the thick competition: I think it's great.
People get a choice of who they can vote for.
I think it's kind of sad that people (in other
township elections) don't want to be
involved."
